HUNTER
The ache in my cock woke me up.
I groaned when it throbbed as a deliciously soft, warm pillow moved beneath it.
Vaguely, I could hear someone saying my name, but I always slept like the dead.
My hand was tangled in something silky.
I inhaled, and could’ve come from the scent around me alone.
The thing beneath my cock rocked again, and I automatically thrust against it.
Something squeaked.
My grip on the silk tangles tightened, and I pulled lightly.
A soft gasp followed.
I thrusted again.
A breathy voice spoke nonsensical words.
“I’mgoingtokillyouifyoudon’tturnoffthatalarm.”
I thrusted again, and warm dampness wrapped around the fabric around my cock.
The orgasmic scent intensified.
I tugged on the silk, and the pillow pressed against me harder.
“You’refuckinginsane,” the voice moaned. “Atleasttakeyourpantsoff.”
It still didn’t register.
I moved again, and something soft brushed against my thighs. The fabric moved off my cock, and I met the pillow bare. It was warm and slick, with a dip in the center that had me thrusting harder. I groaned again as it wrapped around me, tight, wet, and intensely hot.
A choked sound came from the pillow, and I jerked my hips as I drove in again and again, my motion rocking the pillow with me as I tugged and pulled on the silk.
The pillow suddenly clenched around me, and brought a sharp cry of female pleasure with it. I snarled as I fucked the pillow harder, spilling my release into the tight channel.
Panting, I relaxed against the soft cushion.
“Holyshitwhatawaytowakeup,” the breathy voice mumbled.
It was a loud pillow.
A very loud pillow, considering how much most pillows spoke.
I adjusted my position slightly, still buried in the hot, wet…
Not pillow.
What?
The tangled silk was stuck to my fingers. It didn’t feel like fabric. Why would there be silk in my bed, anyway?
I inhaled again, slightly more conscious this time.
The scent was definitely Olive’s, but it was different. Stronger. Richer, and more familiar. She smelled right in a way nothing ever had before.
And she smelled aroused.
Very aroused.
I wanted to taste that desire on my tongue, to drink it in.
Something clenched around my cock again, and I barely stifled another groan.
It didn’t take much to put together the pieces of what had happened as I forced my eyes open.
Olive was sprawled beneath me, her entire body on one of my pillows. I was draped over her, apparently using the tiny woman as my pillow.
And my cock was buried inside her. I could feel my release and her slickness dripping onto our thighs.
My phone’s alarm blared, and my head jerked to the nightstand.
What the hell?
That was bad.
I lunged for the device, earning a noise of protest as I pulled out of Olive with a wet sound that made my cock throb again.
“That thing is so annoying. Why did you set it to go off in the middle of the night?” she mumbled, not moving off the pillow.
I grabbed it, opening up the cameras and scanning the screens intently.
“How long has this been going off?” I demanded, as I went backward through the feed so I could see when my team had first been flagged.
“I don’t know. Feels like forever. I couldn’t get you to wake up—and then you fucked me. Thanks for that, by the way. We should probably do a little DTR so we can figure out if that’s cool or not.”
I hit the button to call my team.
Whatever a DTR was, it was going to have to wait.
Whoever was on duty answered on the first ring. “Hey. Clay and the Alpha are already on their way with a few enforcers. They’ll reach the human vehicle soon. Do you have eyes on Olive?”
I closed my eyes, clenching my jaw at the sound of my mate’s name on his breath.
I was in way over my head, and far too possessive of a woman who was already mine. The way she’d asked me to find another male to fuck her when she was in heat wasn’t going to leave my memories any time soon.
“She’s safe,” I managed.
“Who is that and why is he asking if you can see me in the middle of the night?” Olive asked, sitting up a little.
“Go back to the cameras. Thanks for handling it,” I said into the phone.
“No problem. Good luck with the mate bond.”
I clenched my jaw and hung up.
“Hello?” Olive waved a hand in my face. “What’s going on, and why does it involve me?”
I forced myself to take a few deep breaths.
My mate was safe.
She was healthy.
She was going to be fine.
I met her gaze. “Your human hospital notified their authorities when you disappeared. They knew where you came from. They snuck someone into our city to see if we were killing women who left our society and found out that we turned you to save your life. We’re in negotiations with them to come to an agreement about turning women, but we needed Clay to get back from his cabin to wrap them up. Without serious laws for both humans and werewolves, Crimson River will be flooded with dying humans.”
“That’s the real reason you spent every one of my shifts at the bar with me, isn’t it?” Olive demanded.
I didn’t answer.
She had clearly realized the truth.
“So you lied to me about that yesterday. Did Nova know? Was she keeping it from me too?”
“No. Clay needed time to work through his shit, so we left him out of it. He would’ve found out tonight, on his way to the border. He probably told Nova while he ran.”
“What about Sydney and Aspen?”
“I don’t know whether they’ve talked to Fletcher and Enzo about it, but it seems likely.”
Olive’s body was trembling with rage when she stood up. Her fists clenched, and her face reddened.
Mental alarm bells were ringing, telling me to fix things, but there was nothing to fix. I’d kept the truth from her so she could enjoy settling into Crimson River and adapting to having a wolf. I wasn’t going to apologize for that, even if she was clearly pissed about it.
“Fuck you,” Olive swore, gesturing toward me violently. “I’m not a damsel in distress. I deserved to know the truth. Fuck you for keeping it from me, lying to me, and screwing me while you did. Go to hell, Hunter.”
She strode out of the room without a backward glance.
My wolf snarled and snapped his teeth, but the gestures were deflated. She was right to be angry, even if keeping it from her had seemed like the best call at the time.
I’d try to figure out a way to fix things after I made sure my brothers were alright and my mate’s life wasn’t in danger.
