Page 15 of The Wicked Love
I have no words.
No words for two people in this world who genuinely care what happens to me.
So, I show it.
Throwing my arms around Keanu’s neck, I take a deep breath. And after a second of hesitancy, he wraps his arms around my shoulders.
My eyes well up as I talk to him with my face buried in his chest. “Thank you. Thank you.”
And I stay there for a few minutes, finding comfort in the arms of a man, the arms of a friend.
FIVE
Callum
An hour and a half.
It’s been an hour and a half since I watched Becca walk out of here with her hand in Coleman’s. My feet skate across the tiles of the lobby, pacing back and forth.
Suddenly, the door flies open, and Coleman barrels through, holding his arm to his chest.
Holy shit, it looks broken. Why in the world would he have a broken arm from being on a date with Bec—
My feet are moving before I know it, racing past Coleman and out the door, stopping once I hit the cool air.
As I scan for her, my heart races, and I hope she’s okay. If anything happened to her, I’ll kill him. I already failed her once; I won’t fail again.
I swear to God I will break every single bone in his body.
There.
Forty feet away.
Immediately, I know something is wrong. Her shoulders are slumped, and her eyes are down. And one of her minions, Keanu—the bigger one with shoulder-length brown hair—is pissed. His shoulders are pushed back, and his fists are clenched.
I take off running to her, and I’m five feet away when her brutes block my path.
“Don’t even try it,” Keanu growls.
I size myself up, my eyes dead level with his. With his gray hoodie and jeans, it’s hard to tell his build. But I don’t care. If he stands between Becca and me, I’m winning.
“Move,” I challenge him through clenched teeth. I’m two seconds from moving him myself.
He does not move. He smiles, inching forward.
My fists tingle.
“For God’s sake, chill out, you two. This is not going to turn into a pissing match.”
Becca steps out from behind them, and I stop breathing.
She’s so beautiful. I love when she wears her hair up like that. It doesn’t faze her that she is the alpha in this group right now. That this short blonde girl is in charge.
Every inch of her inside and out isperfect. And then I see her neck, and red speckles my vision.
It takes every ounce of willpower I have ever had to keep my feet planted.
I don’t care if Hercules over here tries to stop me. I bend down, getting to her level, looking into her eyes. I already know the answer, but I ask anyway, “Coleman hurt you?”
