“You’ll manage.” Slipping a hand around her waist, he flashed Noah a mischievous smile before taking her hand and leading her smoothly away from them. He really knew what he was doing, and she lifted her chin as she laughed. If she thought about her feet she’d trip. But Trystan had a firm hold of her, so she guessed she wouldn’t fall far.
“Is this more like what you had in mind for the evening?” he asked as they glided along the gangway beside the bar.
Keira tried to ignore the people staring at them. “Nothing about this evening is what I expected. But I’m really enjoying myself.”
“That’s good. I imagine it’s a bit overwhelming meeting everyone.”
She gave a nonchalant shrug. It hadn’t been anywhere near as bad as she’d imagined, and she was genuinely having a lovely evening.
Worried that Noah might have an issue with her dancing with his brother, she glanced back at the table, only to find that it wasn’t Noah who appeared to have a problem. Seren had attempted to look away quickly, but Keira had caught the look of annoyance on her features.
“What’s the deal with Seren?” she asked Trystan.
He slowed their pace to look her in the eyes. “You’re worried that the best friend thing isn’t the whole story?”
“I don’t know,” she said honestly. “They seem very close.”
“They are, but it’s platonic. Always has been.”
“Really?”
He nodded. “Nothing’s ever happened between them. At least not as far as I’m aware. And there’s no way Noah would be able to keep that a secret.”
“She doesn’t look too happy about me being here.”
Trystan looked thoughtful. “Even if her feelings aren’t purely platonic, Noah’s are. That’s all that matters.”
“You think she likes him as more than a friend?”
“I didn’t say that. I have no idea what goes on in her head. All this talk is ruining the dancing, though.”
“Sorry!”
“That’s okay.” He spun her around, making her laugh loudly and distracting her from her negative thinking.
Chapter Twelve
Noah couldn’t take his eyes off Keira as Trystan led her away to dance. There was a pang of jealousy that was all about wishing he had her in his arms and nothing to do with his brother. Trystan never could resist finding a willing victim to dance with. And it wasn’t as though Noah had any desire to dance around the pub with everyone’s eyes on him. He’d have Keira in his arms later when they were alone.
“She’s lovely,” his mum said, leaning onto the table and breaking his thoughts. “I really like her.”
“Me too.” The fact that she was at ease with his family made him like her even more.
“That dress is insane,” Kit put in. “Doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination, does it?”
“Get your eyes off her,” Noah said while Seren gave Kit a shove.
“Not possible.” He stared at her. “She’s very distracting. That was hilarious with her thinking she was going to Sicily.”
“Poor girl,” his mum said. “She looked mortified.”
“It’s pretty funny,” Seren said. “She totally dropped you in it with Lowen though. How did you neglect to mention him?”
“I’m hardly ever in touch with him, so he didn’t come up in conversation. Plus, I haven’t known Keira for long. We’re still getting to know each other. I hadn’t mentioned Jago either.”
“I can’t believe Lowen didn’t even stay for dinner,” Kit grumbled.
Seren glared at him. “You’re always having a dig at Lowen about something.”
