Her mother looked me in the eyes and smiled, taking my hand and placing it over Esmeralda’s. “Take good care of her. I’ll come visit you.”
I nodded and watched the woman go quietly off into the forest.
“Are we going home?” asked Esmeralda.
My body ached, but I could already feel my healing powers taking effect. It would take a few days to heal completely. Of course, that would change once I’d drank my mate’s blood.
When I think back to all I had done for that woman. I’d do it all again if I had to. I’d damn the whole world for her if she asked me to.
I thought back to the day I set foot in the pet store. I didn’t know then that my life would change forever. We had a lot of work ahead of us. We had to repair the mansion and bury my butler. We would have to move past what had happened to build a new future, but I couldn’t be happier right now. I was holding in my arms what was most precious to me. Soon, I would make her a vampire, my wife, and maybe even the mother of my children if she so desired.
With her, I could rebuild the world.
“Let’s go home, my love.”
