Logan
“I got your message. What are you worried about?” Logan asked as he approached the tall woman.
“Eli is your granddaughter, so she’s a bit wiser than most. I could tell things were clicking in her mind when I glanced over my shoulder at her, but she didn’t get a good look at me.
I don’t want anyone to know I’m here. I’ve told you that we wish to stay hidden.
I made enough enemies when I worked with you, but there will be questions when they return.
Merryn is coming with Broc. Eli, Broc, and Alaric will ask questions. Put an end to the evil bastard.”
“So that’s why you stay secluded. I don’t know why you worry so. No one will see you here. I might just tell them who you are.” He brought his mount closer to hers.
“Nay, you don’t understand. We can’t be caught yet.”
Logan tipped his head. What the hell was she talking about?
“Never mind, Da. It’s a long story, but Tanner knows Glenna, and Tanner has done some things he’s not proud of. He’s gotten away from all that, but he doesn’t want anyone to know of his past. Promise not to say anything. He wishes to keep his past a secret.”
Tanner had worked with one of the men on Ulva, though he used it to do good things too.
“Fine for now, but if they steal any bairns again, it’s all changing. We need you. Then there will be no secrets. That kind of worry is the kind to put me in the grave, lass. If they do, all secrets are out, and I’m coming for you.”
“Fine. I’ll agree to that. I’m going after the bastard myself. Tanner will stay back. Please don’t say anything. I love him. This could become distasteful and nasty.”
Logan narrowed his gaze at this woman whom he adored. He’d respect her wishes for now. “I’ll agree. But as soon as the bairns are involved again, all secrets are open to discussion.”
“My thanks to you. I’ll go see what I can learn and let you know what I uncover.”
Logan grinned and said, “Wait. What did you think of your niece? You met her but didn’t tell her who you were? You have restraint.”
“I observed her before I approached. She’s feisty like her aunt, and she looks like Gavin. I’ll introduce myself when the time is right. I can’t risk it now. I have to move on before she gets closer.” The woman turned her mount around. “They’ll be back shortly.”
Logan yelled after her. “I wanted to know the secret myself. You can’t go without telling me first.”
She waved at him, keeping her face forward.
She knew exactly how to taunt Logan Ramsay.
“God’s teeth, lass. You push me too far sometimes.”
“But you still love me!” she shouted.
“Blast it all, but I do.”
She was one of the few people he let get away with things.
