Selene woke in a nervous fit the morning of the equinox. She’d paced along the courtyard the entire day, only breaking to try praying to Mallium once again. Despite her best efforts, she was still met with silence.
The sun had since waned and set, fear coursing through her that no news had traveled to them yet, that she couldn’t be there to help them—whatever they faced from Vera.
It was nearing the middle of the night as she sat on the edge of the fountain, every single seer at the Sanctum gathered with her in the courtyard in deep prayer. A strange numbness began spreading over her limbs. Her chest tightened. Her head felt strange…
“Selene?” one of the acolytes asked, watching the Head Seer sway uneasily before collapsing in a heap on the hard, stone ground. “Selene!”
Their voices echoed around her. Many more rushed to her aid, shaking her and patting her face, trying to wake her.
But she was pulled into a deep, dark vision.
Weeks passed before her eyes flew open with a gasp, pulled from her slumber with a blinding force, two lesser seers rushing to her side.
“Mallium is in danger,” she cried, her voice hoarse from lack of use. Her hands trembled as she latched on to the nearest seer’s arm. “Get me a messenger. Now. ”
