She groans, turning on her heel and storming off again, muttering something about how we’re both a disease.

Silas exhales happily. “That was so much fun.”

I drag a hand down my face. “I hope she kills you first.”

“She won’t. She loves me.”

I groan, already regretting everything all over again.

“I think she hates us.”

Silas hums beside me, watching Luna storm off. “Nah. She just hasn’t realized we’re her emotional support demons yet.”

I rub a hand down my face. “You’re delusional.”

“I’m manifesting.”

I huff, but I don’t argue. I’m just relieved we survived. She got a few verbal swings in, but she didn’t stab us, which means technically, we came out on top.

We should walk away. Lay low. But Silas… is Silas. And he can’t just let things be.

“She’s hot when she’s mad,” he muses, not even trying to be subtle about it.

I groan. “Don’t, ”

“And, like, weirdly powerful?” He waves a hand in the air, like he’s trying to describe fine art. “You ever just want to let a woman ruin your life?”

I don’t even get a chance to shove him before,

Luna stops. Like the fucking grim reaper just called her name.

Silas freezes beside me. “Oh, shit.”

She turns. And the look on her face? Death. Just pure, unfiltered murder.

She starts marching back toward us.

Silas panics. “Abort.”

“I told you to shut up.”

“Why do I talk? Why do I have a mouth?”

Luna gets closer. I start edging away, but Silas grabs my wrist. “Don’t move. She can’t see us if we don’t move.”

“That’s T-rexes, you fucking idiot.”

She reaches us.

Silas tries to smile. It’s unhinged. “Hey, bestie.”

Luna crosses her arms, her voice flat. “Repeat what you just said.”

Silas clears his throat, looking anywhere but at her. “Which part?”

Luna just stares at him.

He shifts on his feet. “Uh… the part about you being hot? Or the part where I kind of implied I’d let you step on my neck?”

I slap a hand over my face. “Oh my god.”

Luna blinks. Then drags a slow, assessing gaze over him like she’s trying to figure out how much effort it would take to end his bloodline.

He swallows. “You look nice today.”

“Silas,” I hiss.

“I panic-flirt when I feel threatened. ”

Luna sighs through her nose. “Do either of you ever shut up?”

Silas nudges me. “Go ahead, answer her.”

I glare at him. “No.”

Luna exhales like she’s physically restraining herself from committing a crime. Then, after a long moment, she just shakes her head. “You two are an actual disease.”

Silas gasps. “That is so sweet.”

She walks away again, and this time, I physically restrain Silas from opening his mouth.

The moment she’s out of earshot, he exhales. “We should not be alive right now.”

I nod. “We have to stop.”

Silas turns to me, deadly serious. “We won’t.”

And I sigh, accepting my fate.

“She’s sooo mad,” I say, watching Luna stomp away like she’s actively plotting our deaths.

Silas squints. “Yeah, but is she stab-us-in-our-sleep mad or just throw-us-down-the-stairs mad?”

I hum, considering. “Somewhere in between. Like… accidentally-trip-and-let-us-get-eaten-by-something mad.”

Silas snaps his fingers. “So we should follow her.”

I blink. “What?”

He nods, like this is a normal idea. “We should follow her.”

I gape at him. “Silas, that is quite possibly the worst idea you’ve ever had.”

“Not true. Remember the goat thing?”

I scowl. “Don’t talk about the goat thing.”

“Fair.” He refocuses, already shifting to a crouch like we’re about to go on some high-stakes espionage mission. “Anyway, come on. Let’s go.”

I rub a hand down my face. “You just said she was homicidal. ”

“Yes, but hear me out, what if we bothered her more?”

I exhale, long and suffering, but I still find myself crouching down next to him. Because I am an idiot. And because I know there’s no stopping him. So instead of talking sense into Silas like a responsible person, I just mutter, “We’re gonna die,” as we start creeping after Luna.

She’s a few steps ahead, muttering to herself, still radiating pure wrath. She hasn’t noticed us. Yet.

Silas grins, whispering, “We’re like shadows.”

I glance at us, two full-grown men, hunched like fucking goblins. “We look like idiots.”

He shushes me, dramatically pressing a finger to his lips.

Luna keeps walking.

We keep following.

And then, Silas steps on a twig. A loud twig. Like, the loudest fucking twig in the entire realm.

I freeze.

Silas freezes.

Luna stops. Very, very slowly, she turns her head. Her eyes narrow.

Silas panics and blurts, “We’re not following you.”

There’s a beat of pure, suffocating judgment.

Luna tilts her head. “You’re not following me?”

“Nope!” Silas pops the p and gives her a thumbs-up. “Just happened to be walking in the same direction.”

Her eyes flick to me.

I lift my hands. “Don’t look at me. I tried to stop him.”

Luna exhales, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I just told you two to leave me alone.”

Silas nods solemnly. “And we heard you. We just ignored it. ”

She stares. “You are deranged.”

Silas grins. “Little bit.”

Luna drags her hands down her face, muttering something about needing to make better life choices. Then, without another word, she whirls around and starts walking again.

Silas watches her go, nodding to himself. “So we’re still following her, right?”

I smack the back of his head. And for once, I walk away .
