THIRD EPILOGUE

LOGAN

T he ball cracked off the bat, a slicing foul toward the stands, and before I could blink, Asher was off like a rocket from his spot at shortstop.

“Holy fuck, he’s going to run into the wall,” I muttered under my breath as I watched.

He leaped, literally launching himself into the stands like he thought he was Spider-Man or something.

And completely overshot the ball.

Instead of catching anything, Asher ended up diving straight into the lap of a fan. And not just any fan, either—a young, pretty, female fan.

I watched it happen in real time, but it still felt like slow motion. Asher, sprawled across this girl’s lap, both of them wide-eyed in shock.

And then Asher completely lost his mind. While the whole stadium watched, Asher leaned in…and kissed her.

The crowd went nuts, laughter and gasps rippling through the stadium.

“Wow,” Sloane said from next to me. “That’s one way to make SportsCenter .”

I snorted, because my girl had an excellent sense of humor.

The girl’s face turned from shocked to pissed in about two seconds flat. She shoved him hard, and Asher tumbled backward out of the stands and landed on the field with a thud.

“That probably hurt,” I mused, shaking my head. “I can’t believe that just happened.”

The crowd erupted in more cheers and laughter, no doubt enjoying this more than the actual game since baseball was one of the most boring sports on Earth.

Asher stayed there for a few seconds on his back, a huge idiotic, lovestruck grin on his face.

But, of course, he wasn’t done.

He got up, dusted himself off, and turned back toward the girl. And then he raised two fingers to his eyes, and pointed them at her, mouthing, “I’ll be seeing you” like a fucking serial killer.

The crowd lost it again, roaring with laughter and applause, while the girl just rolled her eyes, crossing her arms like she didn’t believe him.

But I believed him. Because I’d had Asher’s same look before.

And I knew exactly what it meant.

Asher was a goner.
