T he rest of the investigation went swimmingly.
Now that the demons were gone, we picked up and recorded normal ghost activity.
To check if the demons had caused the food fight and dancing spoons, we re-investigated them.
No activity like that was recorded again.
We used Connor to create a third team and investigated all The Penn, just as our original plan had been.
Some cellblocks had no activity, while others showed minor hauntings.
Madi and Levi went back to eight, and Dutch enjoyed messing with Levi. The grief, anguish, and despair remained. As did the feelings of loneliness and desolation, but it wasn’t as corrupted as it had been.
The day after the exorcism, Staci and Grace contacted us and said how much lighter they felt. That a great weight had been lifted from them. We explained what happened, and they were beside themselves with gratitude.
I was now standing and waving goodbye to Levi and Madi.
Solace was taking them to the airport along with Callum and Hugo.
Connor and Michelle had already flown back once Michelle had cleansed the women’s wing.
They would be meeting us at our next destination and bringing their belongings with them.
Callie was happy they were joining us, and the network had gone wild when they learned Connor had joined us.
They seemed to think he’d boost the ratings even further, as his name was so well-known.
The team was packing up around me as we were preparing for our next destination.
Spirits were high after a successful investigation.
Callie was ecstatic as it meant that we could broaden our investigations and go more in-depth with at least two permanent teams. We could cover more ground; that was for certain.
Freddie and Callie were shooting the breeze as they packed away the equipment, and Freddie took stock. As every piece was put away, Freddie would ensure everything was present and correct. If something were missing, she’d know about it.
I turned my gaze to the hostile walls of The Penitentiary as it loomed over us.
We’d hopefully vanquished the demons and maybe put some of those female spirits to rest. As for cellblock eight, we were honestly uncertain about that.
The activity had been high there, and while I reckoned we got a good portion of it, cellblock eight’s story wasn’t over yet.
Not with Dutch about. Hopefully, he wouldn’t turn out to be a malicious haunting.
My phone rang, and I glared at the screen before answering it. “What now?”
“Don’t you mean who now?” Chance chuckled.
“You need to clear this with Callie; I’m not in charge.”
“Already spoken to her,” Chance chortled, sounding totally amused.
I scowled at my phone again and glanced to where my wife stood, who had betrayed me.
“And?” I demanded, but I knew what the answer would be.
“The brothers coming out will pay for their own RV, food, and transport. We don’t expect Callie to pay for everything,” Chance stated.
I bristled. “I hope not! Just because she’s got money, Callie’s not a—”
“Shut up, Sunny. None of us thinks that. I’m stating the terms we’ve agreed with Callie, and she clearly hasn’t told you. Buckle up, buddy, because the next one is on its way.” Chance sounded smug.
“Who is it?” I wondered, feeling I should be worried.
“Pyro and Bunny are coming.”
Well, that wasn’t bad. Pyro and Bunny, I could handle.
Then he added, “They’re bringing Magic.”
The ground disappeared under my feet as a Hellmouth opened up and swallowed me. Fuck! Not Magic!
