T erms associated with the Temples
Cleric – All those associated with the temple, from the lowest acolyte up to the high priestess.
Acolyte – First order, someone who has chosen to serve a temple, and is in training to rise through the ranks.
Initiate – Second order, someone who has chosen to serve a temple, and has either fulfilled part of the divine mandate of the temple and/or received divine magic from the goddess.
Priestess – Third order, someone who has chosen to serve a temple, has divine magic, and can administer sacred rites and rituals. If their blood is spilled, their goddess will punish the guilty.
Paladin – Third order, someone who has chosen to serve the temple in a militaristic fashion, granted divine power, sometimes a criminal granted a pardon and divine power in return for strict adherence to a divine mandate.
Head Priestess – Fourth order, the priestess in charge of the administration of the temple in the absence of the high priestess, administers sacred rites and rituals. If their blood is spilled, their goddess will punish the guilty.
High Priestess – Highest order, a woman chosen by their goddess to serve as the head of their goddess’ worship on the physical plane. If their blood is spilled, their goddess will punish the guilty.
Religious Terms
Divine Triad – The trio of goddesses responsible for the protection of Trisia (Knowledge, Passion, Justice).
Sinister Triad – The trio of goddesses held responsible for the cycles of chaos and calamity in Trisia (Lies, Death, Vengeance).
Dualist – People who worship both aspects of the Triad, considered heretics by the temples and believed to be responsible for instigating cycles of chaos and calamity.
Cult of the Elder Gods – People who worship the tangible deities and refuse to worship the Triad. Blame the temples and dualists for causing the cycles of chaos and calamity. Considered an insignificant, fringe cult.
Cycle of Chaos – A period of destruction heralded by the alignment of the planets associated with the sinister triad, where monstrosities plague the land of Trisia.
Cycle of Calamity – A period of massive destruction heralded by both the alignment of the sinister planets as well as the rebirth of Drakon, The Beast of Old.
Tangible gods – The gods associated with the physical plane of existence (sky, sea, land, cattle, fire, water, etc).
Intangible gods – The gods associated with intangible characteristics (Knowledge, Lies, Passion, Death, Justice, Vengeance, etc).
The Loom – The afterlife, where souls wait to be spun back into the Tapestry of existence by the weaver goddess, Fate.
The Tapestry – The metaphysical plane of existence representing all living things in the universe and their lives, connections, and fates.
Avatar – A person possessing wild magic who is chosen by a goddess to fulfil a specific divine mandate and given divine magic. If their blood is spilled, their goddess will punish the guilty.
Magic Terms
Wild Magic – Magic gifted by the tangible gods to the chosen people of Trisia.
Wellspring – A place that can only be found by those possessing wild magic, or those who are meant to possess it. Where people chosen by the tangible gods are called to receive wild magic.
Divine Magic – Magic gifted by the intangible gods to the chosen people of Trisia.
