“Stay with me tonight,” he murmured, his breath warm as we shared a pocket of air.
There were a million reasons why that was a bad idea. A night together would only deepen the stirrings for him in my chest. It would only make it hurt that much more when he left. However, I couldn’t resist that magnetic pull that had me drawing closer to him.
“At Redwood?” I asked.
He smiled. “Well, I think Jules would like to actually get some sleep tonight.”
I smiled too. It felt unsteady.
“Is going to your place okay?” he asked.
Alan would be waiting for me the moment I walked through the door. If he saw I had someone with me though, he’d make himself invisible. But still. It might be too risky to invite Skyler, a freaking ghost hunter, into my house that was haunted by my ghost best friend.
“Yes,” I found myself saying before kissing him again.
Truth was, I wanted Skyler with me. I wasn’t ready to say good night. The incident during the investigation had bonded us in some way. Deepened whatever connection I’d already felt toward him.
“Yay,” he said between kisses. “Will I get a bone too?”
I choked on my spit.
Many things had happened that night. Frightening things and ones that had left behind a crushing sadness. But this, with Skyler, made me feel so… found. Like maybe, after years and years of failed dates and shitty relationships, I’d finally found my person.
If only I could keep him.
Chapter Nine
Skyler
I arched my back and fisted the sheet beneath me. “Harder.”
Paxton braced an arm beside my head on the mattress and snapped his hips forward, creating delicious tingles all throughout my body. He turned his face into my neck and placed a kiss to my jugular, a spot he loved to kiss for some reason.
I liked it. When his lips trailed lower, he found my weak spot and latched on.
Releasing a moan, I slipped my arms around his upper body and followed the dip of his spine down to his backside. His skin was smooth and smelled intoxicating, even more so with our slick bodies moving as one. I lifted my hips off the mattress to meet his thrusts and gripped his ass cheeks, gasping as his cock hit me at a different angle. “God, you feel so good.”
“So do you,” he said, nuzzling my cheek.
Sex had never been like this for me. I wanted every part of Paxton. His lips, his perfect cock that hit me in all the right places, his long, deft fingers, and the wild beating of his heart as our chests pressed together.
The bed creaked as he increased his pace and drove into me with more force.
“Fuck, Paxton.” My eyes rolled back as he slammed against my prostate. “I’m c-close.”
“Me too,” he said, panting.
My orgasm hit three thrusts later. I cried out and dug my nails into his back, arching up into him, needing everything he had to offer. His mouth crashed to mine as his hips bucked, andthen he was groaning deep, the sound rumbling in his throat and vibrating against my lips as we sloppily kissed.
“Don’t move yet,” I said, tightening my hold on him.
Paxton lowered his face to my shoulder and kissed the top of it. “You’re making a lot of demands tonight.”
I rubbed small circles along his spine. “I get that way sometimes. It’s one of my awesome qualities.”
His body shook with a quiet laugh.
We lay in the silence of the moonlit room, limbs entangled and breaths uneven as we worked on steadying them. His softening cock slipped from me, but he remained in place, arms pushed under my back and his face finding the dip of where my neck and shoulder met.
