“Yes,” I say as a long moan. “Yes, so much.”
“You haven’t asked, I’m going to think you don’t want to,” he teases.
“Please, Tristan. I want to come … if it pleases you.”
“Fuck. You’re a natural. Someone made you perfect for me.”
Hopefully the “who” in question doesn’t cross his mind just now.
“It would please me, River. Come when you like.”
I can’t get the image of him taking me roughly in the cave out of my head—it’s going to be the new highlight of all my fantasies. One flash of that and I’m coming. My body is rigid with euphoria for an unknown amount of time. When I return to the land of the living, Tristan is watching me with pure fascination.
“That was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed.”
This is the moment I decide to get shy. I try to hide my face. “You didn’t … didn’t you, um …”
“No. I’m already on the hook for one unauthorized orgasm. I’m going to wait.” He sighs. “I’m going to do my best anyway. What happened today was beyond my control.”
He doesn’t like that. I need to assure him I do. “I know that it must be scary for you to be wild like that, but I promise you, I live for those moments. I’m an animal too, Tristan. I understand.”
He nods. “I know or at least, I’m trying to know.”
“Think of it as consensual non-consent.”
“You know a lot of sex terms for a virgin.”
“Former virgin.” I smile. “And I have older brothers and sisters, plus many friends who had alphas and omegas before me. I’m inexperienced, not uninformed.”
“Then allow me to give you some more experience.” He pounces.
“Wait, no! I mean, if your wild dragon returns go with that, always go with that, but if you’re in control of your urges, I’d rather wait until you can come with me.”
“You just said no.” He marvels at me. I bite my lip. “That’s good. I feel better that you refused me. Am I still allowed to kiss you?”
“Any time you want.”
“Then prepare to have bruised lips.”

This is why people fall in love. The ecstasy is like no other I’ve ever known. I’m buoyant with happiness. The heaviness of his body on top of me is the only thing holding me to this bed.
My stomach growls.
“Whoa, that could compete with my stomach. Hungry?” he says with sleep thickening his voice.
“I am. I missed dinner last night.”
He scrambles off me, panicked. “Why didn’t you eat?”
“I got busy with the wyverns and then we … well I was hungry for something else.” I still can’t say it.
“You need to eat, River.”
It was one meal. Why is he so bent out of shape? I don’t say that of course. It would be disrespectful.
“I’ll get us breakfast.”
