EPILOGUE III - BLAKELY
SOUTH END OF AMELIA ISLAND - PRESENT DAY
I raised my head. “What did he say?”
Liam shook his head. “I daena get it, I think he is goin’ tae go back and rescue himself when he’s younger, but where do ye think he will go?”
“I don’t know... but he’s really literally leaving us, right here in the...” I looked all around. “Sandy beach of what looks like paradise?”
Liam joked, “He’s a monster. He took our horrible painful terrible machine that?—”
The wind rose, whipping and spinning, black storm clouds roiling into the sky just north of us. The sand spray burned our skin.
Liam rolled over me, shielding me with his back, then there was a clap of thunder and an arc of lightning. “Get up, run!”
We scrambled across the sand to some low bushes and got behind one. He put his arms around me and held on. The storm lasted for about fifteen minutes and then as quickly as it came on it ended.
I asked, “Is he still there?”
Liam twisted to look. “Nae, the storm is part of it. Och nae, we hae glimpsed something that canna possibly be true. We were in medieval times.”
“Did we ever get proof? Maybe it was all just a delusion.”
He said, “The kids seemed modern, they knew modern things, but they had never had gum. They were living in medieval times, we were a witness tae it. We were in Scotland and now we’re in Florida.”
I groaned, sat up, and shook the sand from the back of my head. “Yeah, that’s right, my mind just keeps trying to come up with any other explanation.”
“There is nae other explanation, Woodshee, tis time travel, and we are caught up in the excitement of it.”
I said, “Speaking of excitement, we need to figure out how to get home.”
