Chapter eight

I blink and let my eyes adapt to the morning light, rubbing my eyelids with my fingertips.

It takes another thirty seconds for me to comprehend what I’m seeing.

I sit up, propping myself on my elbows, and look down at the gorgeous man with the thick brown hair whose head is nestled in the pillow next to mine. In my childhood bedroom .

I cover my mouth with both hands, remembering how Bo and I rushed here yesterday.

I came into the house first to remind Mom to take her medication while he waited down the street, killing time before I attempted to sneak him in through my window …

I plunk down, flopping back onto my pillow with a soft thud.

A big burly hand grabs my thigh, fingers squeezing playfully.

“What are you giggling about?” He rolls on top of me with a smile, his broad shoulders casting a shadow over me.

“You.” I poke his chest lightly.

“Oh, I thought you might be laughing about this thing I found.” Bo leans over the bed reaches for something and then waves a bright green, two-foot-tall hat at me.

Oops. “I thought you looked familiar,” he laughs.

“Take that back. Your ass looked familiar. I saw a glimpse of it when your dress flew up when you were climbing up on the tailgate.”

“When you asked me if we’d met before, I wasn’t lying when I said we hadn’t. You told me your name, but I didn’t tell you mine, so it didn’t count as an official meeting.”

“I’m not worried about it in the slightest, if that’s what you’re wondering. It’s too late for that. You’re mine now.”

“I was laughing about us, by the way, and you being in the bed I slept in when I was a little girl.”

He licks his lips, with his brown eyes peering down at me, one eyebrow arching mischievously. “Bet you were a cutie. Wish I could’ve been the first to corrupt you as a teenager.”

“You would’ve ruined me for anyone else.”

“Exactly.” He laughs and bends to plant a soulful, delicious kiss on my lips. I raise my brows and meet his stare, tilting my head.

“So what’s the plan?”

“Well,” he shifts, crawling next to me so we face each other with our heads on our pillows. He drapes his arm lazily over my waist and tells me, “We should probably release Hoot today.”

I frown, pursing my lips. “I’m going to miss him, but I guess it’s the right thing to do.”

“It is, and I know the perfect spot. He’ll be much happier.” He taps his finger on my nose. “And then we should discuss where we’re going to build the cottage.”

I squint, scrunching my face in confusion. “Cottage? What cottage? You lost me.”

He sighs, rolling his eyes as if I should somehow be able to read his mind and know what he’s talking about.

“Our cottage. The one we need, so we have some privacy.” He gestures with his hand, pointing vaguely toward the window.

“Should we build it here, out in back? Or on my property, where there’s more room. ”

I stare at him in amazement, my jaw dropping, digesting what he’s saying.

“The best option would probably be here. Your mom would be more comfortable staying in her own home.”

I chuckle, shaking my head. “She was pretty funny when she swatted your butt last night when you were trying to squeeze through the window.”

“She was.” He grins. “I had no idea she could move that quickly or so quietly. She snuck up on us.”

“Sure did.” I nod. “But she was only upset because you didn’t think she wanted you to sleep here. And as you now know, she’s your biggest fan. Strike that. One of your biggest, I’m at the top of the list.”

He reaches over and kisses me before brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. “And that’s where you’ll stay forever.”

“Okay.” I straighten, scooting up with my back against the headboard, crossing my arms. “No more joking. What exactly are you saying with all these cottage ideas, and staying forever?”

“I’m not saying anything you don’t already know.” His dark brown eyes capture mine with an unfamiliar intensity. Now, I’m hanging on every word. “I’m never going to leave you. Unless you want me to, obviously. Barring that, we’ll be sleeping together from here on out.”

“You mean, as in, married or shacking up?” I raise a skeptical brow, making him frown.

“Seriously?” He sits up and dramatically places his hand over his heart. “Oh, it hurts. How you wound me so.” He chuckles. “To think I’d suggest shacking up, as you so eloquently put it, with your mother in tow. Can you imagine?”

I laugh, throwing my hands up. “The gossip would be incredible. Maybe we should do it just for fun.”

“Nope.” He shakes his head. “I say we make it official and tie the knot.”

“When?” I lean forward; eyes wide.

“Next week.” He smirks, leaning back on his hands.

“No way.” I wave my hand dismissively.

“Why not? Do you think I’m nuts to want to marry you so quickly?” He cocks his head, challenging me with a grin.

“Yes. To put it mildly.” I cross my arms again, narrowing my eyes.

“So what? Maybe it is a bit crazy.” He shrugs. “But I already know you’re the one for me. People wait for years, have long, drawn out engagements, and still end up divorced. If we get married on Tuesday, I’ll bet we stay together forever.”

“This Tuesday? As in four days from now?” I ask with my voice rising several octaves.

“Exactly.”He nods, tapping his temple as if it’s the most obvious plan.

I break out in giggles. I’m so happy I could cry. “People will think we’re insane.”

“Absolutely. They’ll place bets on when we’ll split up.”

“But we’ll prove them wrong?”

“Without a doubt.” He reaches out, cupping my face gently.

“Because I love you Riley, and you don’t even have to say it because I know in my heart you love me too.

I can feel it when you kiss me. When you hold me.

When you look at me.” He bends down and nuzzles against my ear, his breath tickling my skin.

“When your sweet little pussy milks my cock.”

“You’re not wrong.” I wrap my arms around him, pulling him down on the bed with a playful tug so I can climb on top of him and straddle his hips.

I lean down and kiss him tenderly, pouring my heart and soul into the kiss.

I slowly pull away so I can search his eyes.

“Did you feel how much I love you that time?”

He slides his hands up my back, pressing me down closer so our lips are inches apart. “I did, sweetheart. And if I could close my eyes and live in that moment forever, I would.”

“But marriage is the next best thing,” I whisper, brushing my nose against his. “We’ll kiss each other for the rest of our lives.”

“And then some.” He winks, pulling me down for another kiss.
