She sighed, nestling deeper into his chest, her eyes almost closing. She felt deliriously, deliciously relaxed, as he softly stroked her hair.

They were man and wife at long last. They were married. And this was only the start of their new lives together. Their new lives, where they could lay in each other’s arms, every night, after making love.

She sighed again, as happiness flooded through her. Soon, they would be moving to their new home, to start anew. This room, and this house, would be left to memory. The ghosts that haunted The Willows would have to wait for the next occupants of the house to arrive.

She was leaving them behind. Forever.

Her eyes started to close. She heard a soft snore just behind her. She smiled drowsily. Jasper was already asleep, having succumbed finally to exhaustion, after the big day. She knew that she was very close to joining him.

She nestled deeper into his arms. She wasn’t scared anymore of what the future held. When she had first met him, she had been scared of everything; jumping at shadows, alone and lonely. He had changed all that. He had changed everything. In finally opening her heart to him, she had gained the world.

Nothing had been able to defeat that love. Not Leonard Green, nor the spectre of Gilbert. It had been hard, but it had been worth it. The trials that had been sent to them had only strengthened their love, tightening their bond. She knew now that that bond was watertight and would only grow stronger.

She turned over in his arms, sighing with contentment. She was exactly where she wanted to be; she had found her home, in his arms. And this was how she wanted to stay. Forever.
