“Yeah right,” she mocks.
“About that at least, smart ass,” I grumble, shaking my head. “Someday I’m going to find a way to prove to you that I’m telling the truth, but for now I understand at least why you don’t believe me.”
“You do?”
“I’m going to have to rebuild the trust between us and you’re going to have to be open to letting me.”
“You make it sound so simple,” she laughs.
“Because it will be.”
“How do you figure that?” she questions, her eyebrow arching up.
“I miss that,” I respond without thinking.
“Huh?”
“I miss the look on your face when you’d get sassy. It made me itch to kiss you and take you to bed until you couldn’t do anything but moan my name.”
“What does it do now?” she asks nervously.
“The exact same,” I confess.
“Well, that’s crazy. You can’t do that now, obviously.”
“Why can’t I, sunshine?”
“Because I can’t even walk on my own. Any other physical activity is out of question.”
“I could always bury my head between your legs and eat out that sweet pussy of yours until you come all over my tongue. That wouldn’t require a lot of movement.”
“If you believe that, you have a very bad memory,” she counters, and I don’t think it’s my imagination that she sounds breathless.
“Maybe I need a refresher course to help me remember,” I suggest, my voice dropping down and vibrating with the hunger I feel for her.
“I don’t think that would be smart.”
“Sometimes it’s better to just do and not think, honey.”
“I’m pretty sure this is not one of those instances.”
“Just my luck. How about I just lay in the bed and hold you tonight? I’ll even keep my clothes on.”
Her brow crinkles and her eyes narrow as she stares at me. “How did we get to the point we were even negotiating this?”
“You have to keep up honey and not stare at my dick.”
“I…You…” I grin. “I wasn’t staring at your dick, Jake Ryan.”
“Too bad. Maybe you will next time.”
She opens her mouth and then slaps it shut, shaking her head. “You really are incorrigible.”
“It’s one of my biggest charms,” I agree. “So, what do you say? Are you going to be brave enough to let me lie in bed beside you tonight and hold you? I mean, I promise to be a good boy.”
“I don’t think you know what good means.”
“C’mon, Katie. Give me a chance to prove to you that you can trust me, and we can build a future. You can argue as much as you want to, but we both know you want me in your life as much as I want to be in yours.”
