CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
LUCIANO
“What was that? Who was there?” I asked, looking behind myself with Yeosin in my grasp. She had been talking to someone, but neither Brent nor I could see them. “Yeosin, say something to me.”
She shook her head. “Nothing. It wasn’t anyone.”
“Yeosin,” I snarled, “tell me.”
After snapping her gaze back to mine, she stared up at me through those innocent brown eyes. “I promise it wasn’t anyone. I think … I think I just had another one of those hallucinations.”
I growled under my breath. I would get it out of her today after we finally broke this pact. It had to be the Colossals playing tricks with her mind again, and I wouldn’t stand for this anymore. We were done. Fucking done with this shit.
“Come with me,” I snapped, grabbing her hand and tugging her along toward our meeting point with Alpha Theo and the Colossals. We had scheduled a meeting for today, so I knew they’d be here.
And I was going to fucking kill one of them if I found out it was true.
We walked for about twenty more minutes in silence, until we reached the small stream. After crossing it, I listened to Alpha Theo chatting with the Colossals about a quarter mile south. I steered Yeosin in that direction.
When we approached, the chatting stopped.
“Luciano,” Alpha Theo said. “You’re here early.”
“We’re done,” I growled at him, dropping Yeosin’s hand. “The pact is over.”
“What the fuck are you talking about? We just had?—”
“It’s fucking over!” I snarled, cutting my gaze to the group of Colossals. “I’m not dealing with any of this shit anymore. I’m not going to be played and have Yeosin put in danger because of you.”
“Yeosin?”
“The human I brought to The Breeding Cave.”
Alpha Theo looked over my shoulder at Yeosin, who stood small behind me, her arms wrapped around her belly, as if she were trying to protect it. She eyed Ruby, the woman she had seen in her nightmares.
“Is she pregnant?” Theo asked.
Flaring my nostrils, I stared at Alpha Theo because it wasn’t any of his business.
“She is, isn’t she?” He rolled his eyes. “Just what we fucking need right now.”
I shoved him back, canines extending. “This is what we set The Breeding Cave up for. To reproduce so those fuckers wouldn’t burn us out of existence. Don’t get fucking pissed off because you’ve been trying for years and not gotten anyone pregnant.”
He pushed me and seethed. “I did get someone pregnant, and they took her!”
“Did you?” I asked, stepping closer to get into his face. “Or was she really your mate and you lost her because you couldn’t protect her? Because you had your eye on another woman when she was supposed to be your only priority?”
Theo fucking pissed me off beyond belief. All this talk about this human woman that he had found to reproduce with. She was perfect for him, and yet he had been with the Colossals probably for a while now.
“We’ve already planned on saving her,” Theo said. “We need to save my mate.”
“You’re willing to sacrifice mine to save yours who you never loved until it was too late?”
“Love? Don’t talk about her like you fucking know what it feels like to love someone.”
Man, I want to punch him in the jaw so badly right now.
I balled my hands into fists by my sides. “I do.”
“That’s fucking bullshit,” he growled, putting his hands on me again. “Don’t fucking li?—”
Before he could finish his sentence, a dragon swooped overhead and breathed fire down on the forest around us, trapping our group of beasts and Colossals within a ring of scorching fire. Just like Yeosin’s nightmares, the Dragon Clan had found us.
