I had her in my arms. She was safe. The panic I’d felt since our bond had started to unravel was finally beginning to settle.

But I’d come too close to losing her. Terror iced my veins at the thought of it ever happening again.

I knew she thought I’d already been overprotective.

She hadn’t seen anything. It might take me years before I’d let her out of my sight again.

The journal was gone. While I’d been following Caly down our disintegrating bond, I hadn’t been aware of my surroundings, and one of the goons had taken it.

It didn’t matter. This was a victory. My mate and I were both alive, which was more than I had dared to hope for from the moment she was abducted.

I had her. Nothing else mattered. I dropped my head to her hair, drinking in her scent.

Beast’s hearing detected the sound of sirens. About fucking time. Caly needed an ambulance. She’d come back to me, but I could feel her pain. I scarcely breathed, muscles locked in place. Just shifting her in my arms had caused her to groan in agony.

Once she had recovered, she was going to experience the consequences of her rash actions. She should never have put herself at risk of dying. Not even for me. She had earned a punishment. I smiled. It would be a lesson she’d never forget.
