“Ilovedit,” I said. “It was–”

The music swelled, drowning out our conversations.

“I think it’s time,” Barrett said, looking toward the front of the room.

“Shall we?” Ryan had one hand on my lower back, grounding me, and led me to the array of chairs facing toward a grand archway draped in white roses, a wide aisle leading up to it.Soon, it will be our turn, I thought as we inched our way up the aisle to a clump of unoccupied seats, although our wedding… Hazel would make us a cake, but that would be where the similarities ended: a small ceremony, Ryan and Maddie and me and our closest friends. My heart felt so full of love just thinking about it. A bubble of laughter spilled from me, and he frowned. “What?”

I shook my head, smiling at him. “I just… I never thought I’d bethishappy,” I said to Ryan. “It just hit me, all of a sudden, how happy I am. It’s funny, isn’t it–I didn’t think I’d be quite so happy at the wedding of my fiancé’s ex-wife.”

He laughed too, then, the edges of his eyes crinkling. I reached a hand up to his face, smoothing my fingers over the faint lines, and he closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again. “Well,” he said, gazing down at me with a smile lingering on his handsome face, “you always did love a happily ever after.”

It was true. I did.

And ours was going to be my favorite one yet.
