TRISTAN
I finally came home after five days in Tokyo.
Five days.
Five days without feeling their presence, without hearing their laughter, without seeing their smiles.
An eternity.
As soon as I opened the door, the children's laughter reached me from the garden.
I put down my suitcase and moved quietly toward the bay window.
The May sun flooded the terrace where Eva was working on her laptop.
Further away, Mégane and Léo were playing in the playground we had installed a month earlier.
As if she had felt my gaze on her, Eva looked up... Her face remained frozen for a fraction of a second before a dazzling smile illuminated her features. A radiant smile stretched her lips. My God, how beautiful she was! And to think I had almost lost everything chasing after chimeras.
"Children, look who's home," Eva called out joyfully.
Léo, at the height of his one year, and Mégane, at three years old, raised their heads. Their faces lit up when they saw me.
"Daddy!"
I knelt on the grass, opening my arms wide to welcome my little treasures. They ran toward me, Mégane taking her little brother's hand to help him move faster. Eva closed her computer and stood up, a playful smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
"Kiss attack!" she announced.
I burst out laughing as two little bodies threw themselves against me and covered me with kisses.
True happiness was there, in these daily reunions, in this shared laughter, in this life we had built together. Love wasn't in grand gestures or devouring passions, but in these small moments of pure joy that made up our daily lives.
I held my children tight against me, savoring their embraces, breathing in their scent. Then I got up and took Eva in my arms.
"I missed you," she whispered against my lips.
"I missed you too."
And I kissed her until she was breathless.
