Athena nodded in agreement, but she was more concerned about the boy she held in her arms.
“Don’t worry about your son, he’ll be fine,” Luna said as if reading her mind.
“There are other kids his age here. And the pack kids will love him. He’s a hybrid, right?”
It wasn’t a question.
“I just sensed it,” Luna assured her.
Athena relaxed a little.
Luna pointed to a slim lady with curly hair approaching them.
“This is Lilian. One of our earliest witches here.”
“Lilian, this is Athena,” Luna introduced her.
“Oh my, finally, she is even more beautiful in person,” Lilian exclaimed, and Athena glanced at Luna in confusion.
“Oh. Dominic shared one or two information about you, and I may have blabbed a little to Lilian,” Luna chuckled.
“We’ve been expecting you. Welcome,” Lilian said, pulling Athena into a hug.
“Emma and I cleaned out one of the quarters at the west wing already,” Lilian explained to Luna before turning to Athena.
“It’s perfect, and you’re going to love what we did to the place. Let me take you there so you can lay the boy down, and then we can go meet the others.”
Athena agreed, and Lilian led the way to Athena’s new home.
Home.
The word sounded strange to her ears.
She hadn’t belonged anywhere in so long.
After Lilian had shown around Athena, she had also been introduced to the other witches in the camp.
And all she could think about was that Luna was wrong.
This wasn’t small. It was everything.
They were building a sanctuary where witches received the protection they deserved.
Witches always lived in hiding, running from danger as they were always seen as threats wherever they were. People always feared their powers, making it difficult for them to cohabitate, but here their energy was unmistakably alive. Witches, hunters, and werewolves.
It felt like stepping into another world.
Athena wasn’t used to being wanted.
But here she was welcomed without suspicion, without fear, and the feeling spread warmth within her.
She looked across the fields as she spotted Marcus. He was watching her, the way he always did when he thought she wasn’t looking.
And that terrified her.
Because she was starting to hope again.
And hope she had learnt, was the most dangerous magic of all.
