Rafe couldn’t keepfrom touching Mila that night, and she was just as insatiable. They didn’t rest until hours later, thoroughly spent and drifting to sleep in each other’s arms.

When dawn arrived, the light welcomed a new era on Franconia Mountain. Rafe had to go and address the Sacco shifters. Now that he had a larger pack and broader area to lead, he had even more responsibilities. But with Mila by his side, he was certain they could do anything together.

Epilogue

Mila

Three months later

The dream had come true.

Mila placed her hand in a protective manner over her belly, cradling the beginning of new life. She had an inkling with all the changes in her body that she was pregnant, but until she felt the movement inside her, it hadn’t seemed real.

She trekked down the mountain, eager to tell Rafe the news.

The last three months had brought with it so many changes. She wasn’t the only one to grieve her father. He’d been alpha of their pack for many years. Lars was not as mourned, at least not by her. Had he intended to dethrone her father all along and take control of the pack? That possibility seemed likely since that was the only reason she could think of for why he wanted to mate with her at all.

It took time for the packs to adjust to combining as one and under new leadership. With Grayson as beta, he’d helped smooth some of the roughest edges. Mila had asked him numerous questions about the green practices at the resort. He patiently explained. The more she learned, the greater her thirst for more knowledge. Rafe suggested she get involved in that aspect at the resort, and she was thrilled to take on that new challenge

Mila had grown closer with Grayson’s mate, Aurora. Although Mila had been frosty to her on first meeting, she often stopped by Aurora’s shop where she sold magical supplies and provided readings. At least once a week, they’d have tea and talk, or the four of them would get together for a bite at Kelly’s Pub. Sometimes Damon and Sophie joined them.

Mila never thought she’d be friends with a witch or a human. Then again, she never dreamed she’d be mated to the alpha of the Franconia pack either. A grin spread across her face as she headed to the lodge to meet Rafe and tell him the good news.

Rafe

When Mila stepped into Rafe’s office, she was beaming.

“What a surprise, my love.” He leaned back in his chair. “You appear radiant today.”

“That’s because I’m happy.” She walked around behind the desk and sat on his lap. She looped her arms around the back of his neck. “I have some news to tell you.”

He arched his brows. “Good news, I hope?”

She nodded. “The best.”

Rafe’s skin tingled as he waited with anticipation.

“I’m pregnant, Rafe.” Her smiled broadened and tears pooled in her eyes. “We’re going to have a child.”

Rafe whooped. He would’ve leapt out of his chair if Mila wasn’t sitting on his lap. He gazed at her. “It’s true?”

“Yes.”

Unable to restrain his excitement, he covered her face with kisses. “You’re right, this is the most wonderful news.” Excitement floored him. “We have to tell the pack.”

Mila agreed with a warm smile. “Our child represents the future, truly uniting both of the packs as one.”

She stood and glanced out of the window. Rafe followed and stepped behind her. He wrapped his arms around her and placed his hand on her stomach, awed that there was life growing inside her. He followed her gaze to view Franconia Mountain. The sun rose high and was full of hope, the start of a new day.

“You’re absolutely right, my beautiful mate. This calls for a celebration when we share the news with the pack.” He held her closer, careful not to squeeze too tight. “But first, I want a few more minutes alone with you just like this.”
