“I just needed a friend, Eva. Gets a little lonely out here sometimes…you know?”
“Yeah. I kind of get that. When will you be back stateside? Let’s do lunch.”
Once Silas was dead.
“Whenever I finish up here.”
“Right.” Another pause. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
No.
“Yes, about to hit the shower. I’m a mess. I—Eva?”
“Mmhm?”
“Did you just fucking moan?”
Countless seconds ticked by, and I heard rustling and indecipherable whispers.
“No…Oh,fuck.”
My mouth fell open, and I rolled my eyes. “You two couldn’t wait five more seconds?”
“Len, I’m so sorry—Derek!”
Derek’s grating voice suddenly replaced Eva’s. “If you must know,” he said, repeating my words, “no, I fucking can’t. Trying to eat some goddamn good pussy over here. Any other questions?”
“I hate you.”
“Don’t care.”
I couldn’t help laughing and shaking my head as I ended the call and tossed my phone on one of the terrace chairs before turning and gripping the rail. At least someone would enjoy themselves tonight. As for tomorrow, I’d find Silas and get this assignment over with.
Two loud raps on the door startled me. I raced across the room, grabbed my weapon from the table, and peered through the peephole.
Melina.
Shit. What was she doing here?
Throwing the stolen robe back on, I placed my gun on a small entryway table but immediately thought better of it and kept it on hand. She and I had never been friends, not even acquaintances. I didn’t trust her. Didn’t trust her reasons to be standing outside my hotel room at this time of night when she should have been in London. Was she here as an informant to Cillian? Making sure I’d gotten the job done.
As if I needed a damn babysitter.
Melina was the daughter of the head of Hades, and I hoped she wouldn’t force my hand. There would be no more hesitations or second chances when gambling with my life.
“I was beginning to think you were still on assignment,” she said, glancing at her watch as I opened the door.
“You came to check on me?”
“Of course not. But since this is…personal, I thought I’d be here to see it through.” Melina’s eyes surveyed up and down my body, taking in my disheveled appearance. “I’m assuming he’s dead?”
She was dangerously close to me, and I envisioned letting out my frustrations on her pretty face. While I’d lost my favorite blade to that bastard Silas, I never left home without my arsenal.
Closing the door, I set my gun down and crossed my arms. “If you came here to confirm whether I finished the job, you can kindly leave.”
Melina stepped back, her smug grin wobbling slightly before slithering back into place. She may be Cillian’s daughter, but she grew up a princess with no skill besides sucking or riding dick. We both knew she wouldn’t leave this room alive if she started feeling bold. And I was already in a shit mood.
“I didn’t come here to check on you, Helena. But Silas killed my brother and nearly did the same to my father had I not intervened. As I said, this is personal.” She pulled her cell from her wristlet. “Give me the location, and I’ll have the clean-up crew retrieve the body.”
