“Are you fucking shitting me?” I asked.
Dom, my business partner and best friend, shook his head, “Nah. Can’t fucking make this shit up.
I lifted a brow. “She seriously asked if she could get a discount on her oil change?”
He nodded.
“And she asked if a blow job would make it free?” I asked to make sure I heard him correctly.
Again, he nodded.
“You mean women actually want to suck his cock? Gross. He’s the walking advertisement of what not to touch.” I ground my teeth as I heard my sister’s response.
Here we fucking go.
I loved my sister, Talia.
I loved Dom; he was my brother from another mother.
What I didn’t love was that the two of them bickered like they were an old married couple.
Hell, I’ve been waiting for the two of them to blow up at each other and hear Dom say, fuck it, and then shut her up with a claiming kiss.
I’ve seen it. Hell, my entire family has seen it.
Those two are the only blind ones to the sexual tension that pours off them in fucking waves.
“Wow. Speaking from experience, Sparkles? That why the last guy you dated stiffed you with the bill. He heard about your late-night activities?” Dom asked.
Talia tossed her head back and laughed, “Really? No, Dom. He stiffed me with the bill because he didn’t like that I defended you against Vanessa.”
Dom lifted a brow. “What are you talking about?”
“We were waiting on our meal, and I heard Vanessa talking shit as usual. Then I heard her say that the only reason you worked on cars was because it didn’t take a brain to screw out a bolt.”
She took in a breath, then continued, “So, I informed her that not only do you have an MBA from Harvard but that dealing with pretentious fucks bores you to death. And that was why you never asked her out.” Talia said with a chuckle.
Before Dom could say anything to that, Talia talked again.
“Apparently, my date was best friends with her younger brother. He didn’t like it.”
I watched as Dom processed her words, and then I saw the corners of his eyes crinkle ever so softly.
Talia missed it because she was digging in her purse for something, then when she found it, she pulled it out.
It was a piece of paper, and she said, “Now, for the reason I’m here. A coworker of mine told me that she needed a camshaft position sensor, and she was wondering what it did and if y’all could get it and put it on for her.”
I jerked my chin. “It’s a sensor for proper engine timing. Essentially, it relays to the information of the camshaft to the ECU.”
Talia nodded, “All I heard was blah, blah, blah.”
I shook my head. “Normally, we don’t do that kind of shit. What kind of car is it?”
She shrugged, “I don’t know. It’s newer.”
“Tell her to take it to Sawyer’s or Torque’s,” Dom said as he walked away from us and got back to work on pulling the lifter valves off a motor for a 1972 El Camino.
Talia scowled, “She has six kids, Dom.”
Dom shrugged.
I shook my head. “Tell her to bring it by and ask for me. I’ll take care of it.”
She nodded, smiled, then lifted on her toes and kissed my cheek. “Thanks, big bro. Love you.”
“Love you too,” I said.
She was almost to her car when Dom called out, “Bye, Sparkles.”
“Bye, Big Foot.” I chuckled.
Dom scowled.
Talia just grinned.
Then Dom looked at me. “You and I are the same size.”
“You got more hair,” I said.
He shrugged, “True.”
Just then, my phone pinged with a text.
Curmudgeon Text Thread
Talia – I just found a fifty at the bottom of my bag. Score.
Ethan – Share it.
Carter – Been telling you to clean out that purse.
Alec – Dinner on you tonight?
Me – That was from Dom.
Talia – What?
Me – It meant a lot to him what you did.
Talia – Well, shit. Now I have to give it back to him.
I sighed.
Oh, this was going to be a long fucking day.
