Chapter Eight
Outlaw Baby Surprise
W ithout thinking or any hesitation at all, Darrow affirmed Mara’s statement.
“She’s pregnant,” he said.
Loud. Confident.
“ Prez ,” Linc said.
“Jesus Christ,” Slade added, running a hand through his hair.
Darrow couldn’t believe this was what he’d become. Falling into that familiar trap of a goddamn woman. Making Warren and Custer’s warning about pussy even more true now. Darrow owed Mara nothing in life. Hell, if anything, he got what he’d been craving for so long. All he needed to do was call prayer with Cyrus and Linc and explain it all.
Mara showed up, panicking. I told her to stay and relax until things figured themselves out. I don’t know, maybe I thought Fitz would come find her and I’d get this rat problem off our back. I thought about taking her phone and doing a little hacking on it. Honestly, Prez, I just wanted to fuck her. She was a drunk mess all the time and I just… what can I say?
“Do whatever you want, but the guy who inked her is a dirty rat,” Darrow said. “You know what the means. The ink means dick now.”
“Pregnant,” Cyrus said. He backed off from Mara. “Who’s the father?”
“It’s not Fitz,” Mara said so calm and cool.
She had been near the outlaw world for so long, survival came naturally.
For Darrow, watching Mara lie turned him on. She was goddamn stunning as it was, but watching her stand up to the President of Sins of Fire Real Anarchy West and lie so easily… Cyrus looked around, instinctively for Priest. But Priest remained in a coma due to the attack from Mara’s rat of a husband.
“I want the enforcers here and I want Mara at the bar,” Cyrus said. “One fucking wrong move and she’s dead.”
Darrow looked at Virus, Amos, and Dolph. “You fucking pieces of shit even look at Mara and I’ll fucking gut you. I’ll rip your fucking eyes out with my fucking teeth!”
“Prayer!” Cyrus boomed.
His voice silenced the entire clubhouse. He turned and walked away.
There was no need to repeat himself.
“Do I still get a seat at the table?” Darrow asked.
“Still wearing your cut, aren’t you?” Linc asked.
“We need to keep this as civil as possible,” Slade said.
“Civil,” Cyrus spat. “Look at this fucking table! Civil? How many empty seats do we need to have?”
Darrow sat down and folded his hands. “Ready to hear things out?”
“You fucked Fitz’s old lady,” Linc said. “You got her pregnant. Explain that. She’s an inked woman, brother.”
“He’s a fucking rat,” Darrow said. “There was something wrong with Fitz for a long time.”
“Being a piece of shit human is far different from being a rat,” Slade said. “Doesn’t give you permission to fuck his wife. That’s a problem, Darrow.”
“Then put a bullet in my head and end it,” Darrow said. “If that’s what needs to be done. That won’t help anyone find Fitz. It won’t help Mara at all either. Unless you decide to kill her too.”
Darrow’s eyes met Cyrus’s.
“I must be losing my fucking mind right now,” Cyrus said. “There’s not a fucking thing that makes sense around here right now.”
“She came to me as soon as shit hit the fan with Fitz,” Darrow said. “She was terrified. And not just of her old man, get it?”
“Don’t play that card against me,” Cyrus said.
“She should have been here the second something happened,” Linc said. “I’m wondering if we should call a Dr. Smile vote.”
Darrow looked down at the table. Truth be told, if the roles were reversed, he’d be on his VP’s side.
“Jesus Christ,” Slade whispered. “This club is so fractured right now. Over a lot of shit. Shit that goes back to Javen. Shit that goes back to Nico. Yellow Bunny hitting our town. A lot happening right in front of us. And what do we do now? We call a Dr. Smile vote?”
“I didn’t do this,” Cyrus said. He pointed at Darrow. “Talk to him, not me.”
“Call the vote if you want,” Darrow said. “I won’t argue it. I won’t defend it. Proof of everything is what’s happening right now. Fitz wanted nothing to do with his old lady. Ever. To the point where she’s with me and he’s not even looking. He doesn’t give a fuck. Doesn’t that tell you she doesn’t know a thing?”
“She ran right to you,” Linc said.
“Of course she did,” Darrow said. “Please, like you haven’t stuck your dick in something forbidden? We all do it. We have our rules, Linc. But we know when to bend them. We’ve all walked the fine line. We’ve all tried to make our appointment with Dr. Smile . That’s what make this club work. You want to kill me? Kill me.”
“We’re not killing you,” Slade said. “I won’t vote it. I won’t allow a pregnant woman to get killed either. Not when she’s carrying a baby with this club’s blood.”
The room fell quiet. Cyrus glanced to his right. The empty seat. Priest. In a coma. Cyrus stroked his chin.
Killing everyone would only feel good for a second. It wouldn’t take back what happened to Priest. Or what happened with Fitz.
“You’d give your life for her?” Cyrus asked Darrow. “Think about it for a second. Forget the taste of her pussy. Or how tight her cunt is. Or her mouth. Or her ass. You’re telling me she—”
“ Prez , I’d believe Mara over anyone in this clubhouse,” Darrow said. “Even if I wasn’t fucking her. She’s been around for so long. She’s seen so much shit. If she wanted to run, she would have. If she wanted to be a rat, she would have.”
“I’ll say something,” Linc said. “Are you running rogue too, Darrow? You and her working together…”
“What the fuck, VP ?” Slade asked.
Darrow stood up. “That’s the second time you’ve insulted me in a few minutes. First with Dr. Smile and now questioning if I’m a rat. You want my cut? You want my patches? Come get them, motherfucker.”
There was no chance Linc would not take on that fight. In a matter of seconds, Darrow and Linc were ready to attack each other. Slade in the middle, desperate to hold his club together. Cyrus looking on, wondering what the next move should be.
“You two stop,” he finally said. “I should say the three of you. Everyone stop. Sit the hell down.”
The three outlaws listened to their president.
“I’m not working for anyone else but myself and this club,” Darrow said. “You know that, Prez . You too, VP .”
“You fucked another table member’s wife and got her pregnant,” Linc said, shaking his head.
“I fucked the rat’s wife and got her pregnant,” Darrow corrected.
“Fuck yourself,” Linc said. “You didn’t know Fitz was a rat when you were blowing loads in her cunt.”
Darrow felt his jaw tighten. There was so much fate being built on lies. Complete and total fucking lies. And Linc saw through it all.
“We need to focus on finding Fitz,” Slade said. “He’s going to end up with protection. We’re wasting time.”
“Fine,” Cyrus said. “What a fucking position we seem to be in.”
“ Prez , I think maybe we all knew something was wrong with Fitz all along. This isn’t me talking to justify fucking his wife. That’s on me. I’ll deal with whatever you want. Bottom line, Fitz is a fucking rat. He almost got us killed. He also tied up and killed the detective he was working for. The heat is going to get intense right now. And I mean… intense …”
Darrow moved his eyes from Cyrus over to Linc. Linc’s jaw tightened.
“He’s right,” Linc said.
“We have a lot hitting at once, don’t we, Slade?” Cyrus asked.
Slade felt chills touch his spine. Just like that, the President of Sins of Fire Real Anarchy West was looking at him. Looking for his thoughts and opinions.
“Way more shit than we need,” Slade said. “I can tell you what else we need, Prez . We need as many bodies at this table as possible. We need our enforcers focused and ready for war. We need our prospects willing to take a bullet for anyone in this clubhouse. We need money. We need someone with half a brain to deal with the tech side of things.”
“Linc?” Cyrus asked.
The VP nodded. For a second, Cyrus reached for the gavel but he stopped himself. There was no need for it. Instead, Cyrus stood up.
“She’s wearing another man’s ink,” he said. “She’s carrying your baby. That’s a problem, Darrow.”
“What’s the fix?” Slade asked.
“Got to get rid of the ink,” Cyrus said. “The man who inked her is a rat. He’s no longer part of this club. That means she’s no longer part of it either. Except in this case she’s carrying the baby of another member. Only way to make it right… get rid of the ink.”
Darrow swallowed hard. Cyrus then pointed at Darrow.
“You’re going to get rid of the ink.”
