EVE

I was back, and my life was a shitshow.

After being gone for so long, my stuff had been taken from my apartment. My landlord thought I was dead, and since I had no family or friends, he’d sold everything. He let me know all that after I showed up on his doorstep in a very dirty gown, probably looking like I’d gone through hell.

The twins hadn’t even given me a chance to shower and change. But that was fine.

There was nothing for me here anymore. I knew I was going back the instant my feet touched the ground and Eros disappeared.

Maybe I owed it to the twins to at least try to get my life back in order…

Fuck that. And fuck them for leaving me here without them.

It was time to use the medallion Angelica had given me. I had no other way to get back to the Demon Realm.

Would they be pissed when they realized I was back? Somehow, I doubted that. And I didn’t care if they were.

I knew what I wanted, and I was going for it .

It hurt a little to see them push me away like they had. But I was determined to make it back to their side.

Now, how do I use this?

I looked at the metal object. It had engravings all over, and the metal was black and cool to the touch. In the middle, there was some sort of creature I couldn’t make out. I rubbed my thumb over it, attempting to clear the image, and it lit up, vibrating in my palm.

The world blackened around me until it was completely gone.

My body felt like it was being squeezed in a thousand different ways before the human world deteriorated and Angelica’s human safe house came into view. Chatter amongst the humans stopped as I appeared, but they quickly went on their way when they saw who I was.

“Eve!” Angelica said, rushing to me. “I was just on my way out. Come, let’s get you to a bunk.”

Her expression was worried, the same one I saw when they had broken into the whorehouse. Obviously, she hadn’t been expecting me.

I wonder what the twins told her. If they told her anything at all.

Her hands grabbed my wrist as she walked me to the living quarters. The humans didn’t bat an eyelash at me; to them, I was just another girl being taken in, saved from the horrors of the demons.

“Did something happen?” she asked, her tone careful. “Where are Eros and Oros?”

She could have looked inside my head if she wanted to, but she was giving me the chance to tell her. The privilege to keep things to myself if I so wanted.

But I trusted her. Just as much as I trusted the twins. Despite their lapse in judgment.

“They took me back to the Human Realm as soon as I got to the palace,” I said with a frown .

She stopped in her tracks and turned to look at me. Her eyes trailed down my form.

“They let you go home and you… came back?”

I came back. Other humans would probably foam at the mouth for a chance to go back. To regain their lives.

They probably had family, loved ones waiting for them.

But I had no one. There was no one waiting at home for me. There had been no mail at my door. No missing person poster.

I had just up and disappeared, and no one gave a shit.

The only ones who truly care about me are here. And they’re the only ones I truly care about too.

I shrugged; I had no words for her. How could I tell her all that? How could I tell her that the best time of my life had been when I was kidnapped by a demon and sold to them ?

But one look at my face seemed to tell her everything she needed to know.

“Do you want me to call them?” she asked.

I shook my head.

“Could I actually stay here for a bit? Maybe… help out?”

A smile spread across her face.

“I would love that.”
