That was all he needed. He drove into me, bottoming out. My pussy resisted the length and thickness but he worked her into compliance with back to back thrusts until she was working with him instead of against him.

“No more distance, baby. This is my shit.”

I grinned at the growl in his voice. His ego kicked in.

He fucked me like he could erase the three years we were apart.

I fucked him back, hoping to do the same.

He let me cum on his dick twice before he grunted through his and I snuggled into his chest, accepting that this man was my chaos and my clarity.

The next morning I woke up in bed alone but next to me on the nightstand I found a key fob to Suleem’s Jeep.

For some reason, the first thought I had was that I needed to go see my mother since I was home.

As much as I loved her, seeing her was hard.

She missed so much of my life and would continue to miss parts of my life.

After every visit I spent the next couple of weeks in a dark place because I wanted her with me but that wasn’t a possibility.

I made a promise to see her soon and pushed the thought to the back of my mind, deciding I was going to not travel to the dark place.

It was so easy to get stuck there, and right now, I just wanted to enjoy a small piece of happiness.

I glanced at the nightstand again and focused on the new phone, squinting at the note scribbled in his terrible handwriting that said he got the hook up from Chantelle so I couldn’t turn on find my phone.

It was also next to a knot of hundreds I didn’t need but he would be upset if I didn’t accept.

I grinned and rolled my eyes. He could buy me ten phones straight out of the store without blinking but his hood ass elected to get a jailbroken phone from the streets.

Chantelle worked for KinNex Mobile and sold devices for a grand straight out of the box.

They were always jailbroken, which meant never paying any monthly service fees.

I had no clue how she hadn’t lost her job with the way she was robbing them folks blind.

Suleem was forever going to be a hood nigga who did hood shit and l loved his hood ass.

I powered on the phone and climbed out of bed, placing my hand over my stomach when I felt the reminder of how thoroughly he paid his debt last night.

The ache between my thighs and the way my stomach tensed from the muscle memory of how deep he stroked me had a smile on my face.

After I emptied my bladder, I washed my hands and lifted the phone from where I left it on the counter to pee, unlocked the screen, and dialed Suleem. Once I had the call on speaker, I lifted my toothbrush and turned on the water.

“Tell me something.” His sexy voice danced around me and I grinned after sticking my toothbrush under the faucet before lining it with toothpaste.

“I woke up by myself.”

“You want me up under you or you want me to pay the bills?”

“Both.” I brushed my teeth with one hand and raked my fingers through my hair with the other. I had keratin on my natural curls, which allowed me to keep them straight, but there was no way it was going to survive the wrath of Suleem.

“Aight then, I gotta be here to handle business but I got you later.”

“You didn’t have to leave me your Jeep. I’m probably going to hang out around here today. I missed breakfast but I’m going to spend the afternoon with Aunt Mae.”

“I had to stop her from waking you up. She hit my line at seven this morning ’cause you didn’t answer your phone.”

“Did you tell her I didn’t answer because you had it?”

“Hell nah. I gave her the number to the new one but I see you just turned that shit on.”

I grinned. “It’s been on.”

I spit and used my hand to gather water to rinse then ran my tooth brush under the water before grabbing the mouthwash.

“Nah it wasn’t, ’cause I called.”

“What time are you going to be back?” I swished while he answered then spit in the sink.

“Not sure, what’s up?”

“Nothing.”

After one day I was already feeling needy. I wanted to be up under him.

“Ay, the fuck wrong with y’all? Turn that shit down. This ain’t a damn club,” he yelled before I had his attention again.

“Let me go parent these childish ass muthafuckers and it’s okay to tell me you miss me, Yah. Enjoy your day, baby, and I’mma take care of you later.”

After I ended the call, I stripped the bedding and replaced it, showered, and damn near skipped around the room getting dressed. When I made it to Aunt Mae’s apartment, she was in the hallway telling one of the kids she tutored goodbye.

“I called you.” She narrowed her eyes after she sent him on his way and I nodded.

“I know, sorry. We were up late and…” She waved me off.

“Mhm. I know exactly what you were doing. Come on in this kitchen so I can warm you a plate.” My cheeks heated but I followed her to the kitchen where I washed my hands then sat at the small dinette while she moved around getting what she needed.

By the time she was done, I had a plate piled with hash browns, scrambled eggs, and the thickest peppered bacon I had ever seen in my life.

She sat across from me, waiting until I blessed my food and took the first bite.

“God I missed this,” I mumbled.

“I bet you did.” She smiled proudly. “How you been doing? You okay?”

I nodded and swallowed. “I am.”

“I’m glad you’re back. You know he hasn’t been right since you left.”

I lifted the bacon and ripped into the end. “I’m sure he was fine.”

She arched her brow and smiled smugly. “Were you fine?”

I dropped my eyes to hide my smile and she laughed. “Both of y’all are stubborn as hell.”

“Was he angry with me?”

“Yes.” She looked me right in my eyes. Aunt Mae had Suleem since he was a baby. She raised him as her own. Loved him as if he grew in her womb. So anyone who hurt him hurt her.

“Were you?”

“Yes…” she paused. “But only because you two needed each other. What happened between y’all, what you lost…

” She shook her head. “You should have leaned on each other, and I wish you could have, but I’m also glad you put yourself first. You loved yourself enough to do what you had to do to be okay.

People might think the decision you made was selfish but you should never feel bad about making your heart and mind a priority.

Suleem was angry but he understood. He loved you enough to let you go because he knew you would be back. ”

I nodded and she smiled. “I had to knock his stubborn ass over the head a few times for that to sink in, but he knew.”

I laughed and pushed a forkful of hash browns into my mouth, moaning through the buttery, flavorful blend, chewing until I could swallow. “Who did your hair? I want to get mine braided.”

“Chile, you know I don’t remember. One of them girls over at BeauTee. She was good too. Hold on. Let me get my phone.”

She lifted from the table, left the kitchen, and returned with her phone. She swiped a few times then frowned. “Shit, I can’t remember her name to look it up. Hold on, let me call Chandra.”

She swiped a few more times then made the call.

“Chan, what’s that baby’s name who did my hair over at BeauTee?

Oh, shit, that’s right. No, I’m good.” She lifted a hand and brushed her fingers over her hair which was piled high in a bun on top of her head.

“I couldn’t remember. “Yahzi said she wants to get her hair braided and I told her Miesha was good. I just couldn’t remember her name.

Mmhm, she’s back. Okay, I’ll tell her. Okay girl, bye. ”

She ended the call and placed the phone on the table. “Her name is Miesha. Chile, I was trying to call the girl Leah.”

“That’s close,” I lied and she shot me a look.

“Call over there and see if she can get you in and Chan told me to invite you to her bachelorette party Thursday.”

“Wait, Miss Chandra is getting married?”

“Yeah, chile, she got her a man and I’m trying to get me one too. Shit, I hope she has some strippers at her bachelorette party I can choose from.” She smiled sneakily and I laughed.

“You’re out here looking all young and cute. I thought you already had a man.”

“I wish. There isn’t much to choose from around here. At least not my age. I might have to get me a little YN. Ain’t that what y’all call ’em now?”

My eyes went big and she smiled. “Don’t be looking at me like that. I still got some motion in these hips.”

“Stop, do you know how your nephew would act up if you got a YN? Please don’t, but if you do, please make sure he never finds out. It will end badly for all parties involved.”

She rolled her eyes. “Ain’t nobody worried about Leem and I have a feeling he’s going to be occupied with other things now that you’re home.” She lifted from the table. “You want some coffee? I think we need some with a little Bailey’s in it, but don’t you go snitching on me though.”

I laughed. “Your secrets are safe with me. Girl code.”

While she made us coffee, I pulled up the Stylz app and selected BeauTee Salon to search for open appointments.

When I noticed one for the next morning at eight o’clock and that medium, waist-length knotless would only take three hours, I snagged it.

As soon as my confirmation came through, I locked my phone and finished my breakfast, waiting on my spiked coffee with the same thought on repeat in my head…
