“And it will pay for tons more.” I fluttered my lashes, knowing it would break him.

He cracked a smile. “Stop. You look ridiculous. You can’t act cute around a dead body—it’s confusing.”

“You must be confused a lot then.”

Rolling his eyes, he dug his heels into the sand and sighed. “Fine. One more case. But when we solve it—and we will—this goes back to being our honeymoon, and I get you all to myself.”

I stuck out my hand. “Deal, Director. You have my word.”

His gaze narrowed, and I knew where that look was headed. Voice sober, he said, “You’re not allowed to search for clues alone or run headfirst into danger. I’m deadly serious.”

Wrapping my arms around his waist, I grinned up at him. “Yes, boss. I’ll be a complete professional. Witch’s honor.

“I don’t believe you.”

I winked. “That’s all part of the adventure.”
