Part of her wished she could melt into the embrace. But she couldn’t—for more than one reason.

As Reid pulled away, he planted a soft kiss on her cheek. “You’re an amazing woman, Olive.”

Her cheeks warmed—not with embarrassment but delight.

“You’re a pretty amazing man yourself, Reid.” As Olive said the words, she glanced behind her.

Hannah had appeared in the doorway.

Hannah, who was clearly madly in love with Reid. Olive had a feeling Reid was still clueless . . . but that didn’t mean Olive couldn’t put in a good word for the woman.

“If you ever decide you want to date again, remember that you don’t have to look very far.”

He tilted his head. “What do you mean?”

“One day, you’ll know.” She glanced at Hannah and smiled.

Then, with one more wave, Olive turned and walked to the van.

It was now on to her next assignment. New place. New people. New puzzles to solve and criminals to expose.

In fact, just this morning Jason had called and asked Olive to take on a case that could hit a little too close to home. She needed to talk to Rex about the potential assignment, but she hoped it would work out.

The details fascinated her. And it would give her an excuse to talk to Jason more.

Olive couldn’t wait—and that was no smokescreen.
