RILEY

Journal Entry | Riley

I spent the afternoon in our little “bookstore,” playing shopkeeper while Katya insisted on charging me double for cookies that didn’t exist and Misha tried to sell me back my own paperback.

Later, I got to tuck them in—a gift when Babushka’s wrung out and Dominic’s knee-deep in evil master’s to-do list.

When Misha realized Nips was missing, I pulled him out of my pocket like it was all part of the trick. Hands down, the best magic act of my life.

Then, he asked me to tuck them both in because, and I quote, “me and my nips are cold.”

I legitimately died.

And if there was a single working scale in this house, I’d be all over it. I worry that my secrets may be bulging at the seams.

At least my jeans still fit.

Sort of.

But that could be because Babushka keeps acting like the world will end if I don’t gorge myself on one more potato dumpling.

Not exactly a hardship. They’re delicious.

Speaking of delicious…

I think I’m falling for my captor.

Tomorrow’s priority: See if the bookshop has “Stockholm for Dummies.”

After I confront Zver.

If I survive.
