Zaviar...
I fall to my knees but try to search him out. What happened after he was struck down. Where is he? Is he alive?
“Hey, Pretty Crow.” A deep voice is laced with pain as someone falls to their knees in front of me.
Zaviar’s dark lashes flutter to keep his deep blue eyes focused on me. His palm shakes against his chest, and blood coats the front of him, just like it does me.
We’re both fucked.
We’re both going to die, and no one can save us. We’ll die with death all around us.
He’ll leave his brother after all this time. And I’ll leave my mates. I guess—I guess they won’t be my mates after I’m gone.
I never even told Ryke.
I didn’t get a chance to tell Damien I loved him. I love him so fucking much.
I never told Zaviar that I heard what he said that night.
There’s so much I never told them.
But I have this moment. This one last moment.
“Zaviar,” I whisper, and blood slides over my lips.
“Don’t talk, Crow,” he says as his cold hands slide around me. He holds me against his chest, and I stare out over his smooth shoulder. Pink feathers fan up in a way that block my view of the destruction.
“You never let me change your wings back,” I say with weakness clinging to my tone.
A laugh shakes through him, and a hard cough follows the sweet sound of his amusement.
“That’s your last fuckin’ words, huh?”
A smile almost touches my lips.
“I don’t want you to die with pink wings, Zaviar.” My fingers skim over the soft downy feathers.
“Don’t,” he says, taking my hand and sliding his fingers slickly through mine.
I just look up at him as a breath rattles from my lungs.
“It’s the only thing that makes me feel like I’m yours,” he hisses through his teeth as his body starts to shiver.
“Mine?” I almost choke on that word, but it fills me with warmth when there’s so much coldness trying to sink in.
He nods his head slowly, tilting forward until our foreheads touch, and we breathe in each other’s final breaths.
“Mine,” I whisper once more with finality, my lashes closing with so much heaviness.
“Yours,” he says like a sweet goodbye.
My body slackens as I slump into him. I feel his hold on me loosen as my heartbeat thumps once more in my ears.
...
Finally.
I find peace.
