“Come here,” Vonnie said, throwing her arms around my neck. “We have some making up to do. I thought you were trying to have your cake and eat it, too, or something. I apologize for snapping at you and not giving you a chance to speak your piece.”
“Don’t apologize for voicing your opinions, love. You wouldn’t be you if you didn’t say what was on your mind. Never hesitate to be yourself around me. Although I’m pretty sure you don’t have a problem in that department.”
“Not at all!” She laughed.
I would never get tired of hearing that laugh. “I know you’re between living spaces and all that. Come travel with me and the boys this summer. I can connect you with a few people in the fashion industry to get your lipsticks on the map. I’ll find you a gorgeous place near us when the summer is over.”
“You serious?”
“Of course. I want to see your business grow beyond your wildest dreams.”
“I would love to join y’all. Thank you for supporting me.”
“Y’all, keep the party going,” I said, pulling the mic to my lips again.
“Can we sneak out? I’ve missed you and my friend,” she said, letting her hand graze the front of my jeans.
She didn’t have to ask me twice. This party was as good as over if you asked me.
“I thought you’d never ask, love.”
