Acheron is coming!
That much was true. A storm built over the manor, and I was sure the mage was the cause for it. But, for now, I only wanted to see my mate, make sure she was alive. Grief filtered through our bond, and I followed it toward where Emma must be.
What had happened in my absence?
What load had she been made to carry?
When I reached the porch, I shifted forms, and I eased through the front door of the manor house, glad I hadn’t bumped into Sophia on my way in. Not that she’d recognize me as a wolf.
I stepped into the bedroom and paused. Emma had been tucked into our bed, on my side, much how I’d left her. A chair had been scooted as close to the side of the bed as possible, and Sophia sat in it, her head rested on her arms, and her arms rested on the end of the bed.
The floor creaked under my feet, and Sophia’s head shot up. Her gaze landed on me.
“Is she hurt?” I breathed.
Sophia shook her head. “No, no, her heart might be broken, but her body isn’t. She’s fine, I think, she’s just had a particularly rough day.”
“What happened?”
“I don’t know. She wouldn’t tell me.” Sophia scrubbed her hand over her face. “She wouldn’t even tell Dr. Wise, and she even offered to take it down in her notebook.”
I brushed her hair back from her face and bent down to press a kiss to her forehead.Emma. I’m home, and I love you.
Her eye fluttered open. She sat up and threw her legs over the edge of the bed. She grabbed my waist and maneuvered me to stand between her knees. She rested her head on my belly. “Logan, there you are. I didn’t know what had happened to you or how long it was going to take you to get back. It’s been hell around here.”
I smoothed my hands over her back. “Your mom said you had a hard day.”
Emma lifted her head and scanned our bedroom. “Where did she go? Earlier, she wouldn’t leave my bedside, no matter how much I commanded her. She even brought me soup and made me eat it.”
“I think she knew now was a good time to get out of here. We might have plans, those sexy boy/girl plans. The kind mothers should never know about.” The corners of my mouth twitched. “Though, I’m afraid she’s gonna find out when you have one of those primal orgasms.”
Emma leaned back, wrapped her legs around my waist, and gasped when her slit met my dick. Her green eyes sparkled in the lamp light. “I think Mom’s in for a real helluva doozy tonight.”
I grabbed her thighs and tugged her hard against me, thrusting. “Maybe we should talk first?” I asked. “You have a secret to tell me, and I have things I need to tell you.” Two faces from No Man’s Land swam in my thoughts, and I pushed them away.
She grabbed my arms and pulled me over on top of her. Trembling, she wrapped her arms around me and pressed her cheek to my chest. “I have so much to tell you, but for now, I only want you, to remember whatusfeels like.”
“I might already know a thing or two,” I murmured over the top of her head. “But it can all wait untilafter… Because for us, Emma, there will always be anafter.”
Even as I grasped her chin and tipped her mouth toward mine, three words thundered in my head, keeping time with pulse of my heart.
