‘Soon, you’ll swell with our child.’ For the first time she heard real awe in his voice but it was his use of the words ‘our child’ that made her lower lip tremble with emotion because she loved his acknowledgement.

Loved that there was an even closer connection between them than the first night when they’d made love.

Jack’s touch was both tender and demanding, his fingers trailing over her skin, leaving a path of fire in their wake. Callie arched against him, her nails digging into his shoulders as she urged him closer.

Then she gasped as his fingers parted her feminine folds and his breath fanned over the tight bud of nerve endings.

When his tongue started playing with her sensitised clitoris her pelvis jerked and she had to reach behind her and grab hold of the bed post to keep herself upright as he delivered the pleasure she craved.

‘Give in to it, Callie!’ He told her between exquisitely torturous strokes of his tongue. ‘Your pleasure is my pleasure.’

As his tongue maintained its teasing flicks, his fingers stroked inside her, building up her need until she thought she’d explode. God, but she was so close. So close …

‘Jack!’ she sobbed as raw, undiluted pleasure rolled through her in wave after wonderful wave. Finally spent and way over-sensitised, she speared her fingers through the dark pelt of his hair and urged his head away from her.

Looking up at her, his smile was one of primitive male satisfaction in pleasuring his mate.

‘Now together.’ His voice was low and sensuous like dark, melted chocolate.

Callie had no need to nod her assent as he swept her up in his arms once more and put her down gently on the mattress of the bed.

There were no more words as her senses focused entirely on Jack as he joined her on the bed, his naked length over hers.

She loved the slightly salty taste of his skin as she ran her tongue along his collarbone; the soft texture of his hair as her fingers threaded through it as they shaped the back of his head.

Breathing deeply, she thrilled to the male scent of Jack intermingling with the musky scent of her own arousal—a perfect combination that inflamed her even more.

‘You drive me crazy,’ he groaned as he settled himself between her legs.

‘Now, Jack. I want—’

Yeeess.

Need gripped her harder as he eased inside her, testing her body the way he’d told her he should’ve the first time they’d made love—the way he’d told her he would’ve, had he realised she’d been a virgin.

‘Don’t go slow,’ she said raggedly as she raised her hips to urge him deeper.

At her signal, he thrust, sheathing every inch of himself and causing pleasure to rip through her like a thousand shooting stars.

Her eyelids fluttered closed and she focused on the delicious friction of his body moving in and out of her hot, slick depths as they set up a glorious rhythm between them.

They moved together in perfect rhythm, and she understood how it felt to fit together as if they were made for each other. The world outside ceased to exist and there was only the two of them, lost in the sensation of their union.

Jack’s movements were slow and deliberate, each thrust controlled to draw out their pleasure.

Her hot, ragged breaths came short and fast, punctuated with moans of delight. Callie felt the tension of her orgasm building as Jack drove them closer to completion with stronger, faster, deeper coupling than she remembered from their previous night of lovemaking.

Her hips lifted higher, seeking more of the delicious pressure that made her toes curl. She wrapped her legs around him, wanting to pull him deeper as she sought the ultimate pinnacle of ecstasy.

Her inner muscles pulsed and contracted rhythmically around his length until her control splintered. Arching up against him with a guttural moan, her movements were suddenly beyond her control and her head thrashed back against the pillow as she shattered around him.

‘Jack!’

‘Callie!’

They groaned out each other’s names in unison as they found the peak of their pleasure together and their bodies shuddered with the intensity of the sexual release that ripped through them.

Wave after wave of ecstasy crashed over her and Callie thought that nothing could ever be so perfect.

As they both drifted back to earth from the heavens, they lay with their bodies still joined and legs entwined, the sound of their laboured breathing filling the room.

Jack stroked her hair gently, his touch soothing. His voice was low and unsteady as he told her, ‘Making love has never been so good.’

She believed him.

Cradled now against his chest and nestling into him, every cell in her body hummed with satiation and felt in tune with him.

She relished the way his hand stroked against her hair.

It made her feel cherished, but she also felt like lying in his arms was a homecoming—as though it was where she was meant to be.

‘That really was amazing,’ Callie whispered, her head resting against his chest. ‘I’m so glad we’ve stopped waiting to be together.’

‘I am too.’ Jack kissed the top of her head and she heard the smile in his voice as he said, ‘It was amazing. I’ve wanted to be with you like this again since the moment I woke up in Melbourne and found you gone.’

Callie lifted her head and shifted so she could look at him. ‘I still pinch myself knowing that if we hadn’t met in Melbourne, we would’ve met here in Hope Creek.’

‘Mm, but minus a baby on the way,’ he acknowledged without any recrimination or regret in his voice. ‘We are doing things back to front.’

‘I kind of feel like it’s working though,’ she admitted tentatively.

‘Yeah.’ He stroked his hand along her spine and told her softly, ‘This chemistry between us shatters all my control.’

She basked in his confession, feeling feminine power in a way she’d never felt it before. But it worked both ways and it wouldn’t be right if she didn’t admit to it too. ‘It weakens me, too.’

He sat up a bit against the pillows and she looked up at him.

‘You weaken my resolve, but I don’t feel weakened,’ he corrected. ‘If anything, I’m feeling very manly and pretty invincible right now.’

She laughed. ‘That’s called testosterone. Just as well there’s no chandelier here for you to swing from then, but should I expect you to beat your chest and give a Tarzan cry in the next few seconds?’

Jack threw his head back and roared with laughter before he asked, ‘Would it turn you on again?’

Callie walked her fingertips down his sternum. ‘It doesn’t take that much effort for you to turn me on. You only have to be in the same room to do that.’

He shook his head and sent her a questioning look.

‘What?’ she asked.

His slight frown was one of bemusement. ‘I don’t think anyone else has been so honest with me.’

‘Oh, go on. I’m sure there have been plenty of women who’ve told you how devastatingly attractive you are.’

His mouth twisted. ‘Not in so many words, and I don’t recall any being so open and honest about what they’re feeling. You’re one of a kind, Callie.’

The admiration in his eyes made her feel good and she basked in the moment. ‘Don’t forget it!’ she said. Then with a wink, she added, ‘And, if you do forget it, I’m sure Morgan will remind you!’

That earned her an exaggerated groan followed by more laughter.

Callie almost purred with satisfaction. ‘I had so much fun tonight at the wedding dancing with you and this feels good, Jack.’

‘Will you stay here with me tonight?’

‘Yes.’ She didn’t need to think about it. ‘Although, given the unrestrained symphony of our lovemaking just now, we probably need to be a bit more restrained when Phil gets back.’

His fingertips traced over one of her cheeks. ‘Do you think we could be more restrained?’

‘No chance!’ she admitted.

‘Then we might have to seize any moment we can until Phil leaves or I’ll have to suggest he gets a room at the hotel.’

Lord. She’d barely think of anything else except making love with Jack again. ‘You’re staying all week, aren’t you?’

‘I’d like to stay for as long as you’re here, then I’d like to base myself in Melbourne and work from there in between necessary business trips, if that doesn’t feel like I’m crowding you?’

Crowding her? Oh goodness no. Bring it on!

‘That sounds fabulous.’ She bit back on the invitation that hovered on her lips to ask him to move into Jim and Margaret’s house in Toorak where she lived.

Don’t be too eager, a voice of caution warned even while she closed her eyes again, snuggled back into his arms and imagined how good it would be to fall asleep with Jack every night and to wake up with him every morning.

Excitement pulsed through her and she was filled with real hope that they could gel as a couple and work their way through parenting together. She moved up the bed so she could rest her head against his chest and listen to the strong beat of his heart.

Jack traced his fingertips across her shoulders and down her spine. She knew they were on the same page when he said, ‘I’m looking forward to waking up with you.’

‘I promise I’ll be here.’

‘You’d better be. Don’t forget, I know where you live now!’

‘And I’m happy you do.’

He shifted a little and his chin rested on the top of her head. ‘There’s so much still to learn about each other.’

Callie stiffened reflexively, then deliberately moved as she hoped he wouldn’t feel her tension. She kept her voice light as she said, ‘There’s no hurry.’

There were some things she hoped Jack would never learn about her past.

‘No. But we can start tonight.’ He kissed the top of her head as his fingers continued to caress her back. ‘What’s your favourite colour?’

‘Red.’

‘Favourite food?’

‘Anything from Margaret’s kitchen, really. But when I’m in Melbourne I like to eat Thai food. What about you?’

‘Tonight my favourite colour was definitely green. As for food, Thai’s good. I also like Indian.’
