Page 70 of Shadows Ascend (Remnant Archives #2)
" E mon!" I screamed, water sputtering from my lips as I roared my fear, sweeping my hands upwards, hoisting the shadows from the dark ocean, and blasting them into the sky.
But I was too late, thousands of bright red beams of light shot simultaneously outward, forming one horrifying blast straight into the heart of my soulmate's darkness.
"No!" Riella and I screamed, as the Sanguine burned holes through his shadow being, leaving him torn and tattered falling through the sky.
Using the waves of shadow, I sent them to cradle Emon as he fell. With only mere seconds to think, I desperately latched onto the remaining pieces of his soul. He was bound to me and he was mine, I was the fucking goddess here.
Emon resisted when I reeled him in but I had no time to ponder why as I glared at the looming demon army bright with Sanguine power, then over to the swirling smooth stone steps, thousands of them still cascading with the water that I had yet to traverse, and lastly over my shoulder at the pulsing Well of Souls.
The bright well of light humming fiercely, calling to me once again.
"I'm not letting you go, shifter. You once said that one day you would get this right, and I would have nowhere to hide.
Well you got it right Emon, and I will never let you go now," I whispered fiercely to him through our connection, not knowing if he heard me and then turned towards The Well.
Running, I scooped up Riella in my arms, her spear tucked behind my back with shadow.
"Hold tight, my little chickadee," I rasped, my booted feet splashing against rushing water and smooth stone.
"I am with you, maedere," Riella whispered.
I jumped.
Wrapping my body around her, I twisted in the air, shielding Riella from the first beams of light as we fell backwards into The Well, pulling Emon's tattered soul along with me.
Pressing my lips into her hair and calling on the lilin to wrap around us, I breathed a prayer whispering, "The end of your soul lives within Sheol."
