“On the bright side, though, he didn’t kill us, and now we have a clue about what clan is perpetrating this deal. We can try to use the information to track down more clues about the mirror’s location.”
“Great. We’ll do that as soon as we’re back from getting this talisman.”
“No need. I brought along my Researcher Pro portable device. I can research from the field with it.”
“Where is it?”
“In your bag. Tossed it in before we left.”
“No wonder it’s so heavy,” Paige lamented.
“I doubt it. That’s probably the massive paperweight holding the Seepy Sap. The RP isn’t that heavy.”
Paige exited the highway, following the directions to another road. “Speaking of, how does this Seepy Sap work?”
Dewey clicked off his seat belt and dove into the carrier on the floor. “Oh, well, you just take a little bit and put it on your tongue, and then you’d be able to seep through a crack or a small opening.”
Paige wrinkled her nose as she made another turn. “You eat it?”
“Yeah,” Dewey answered from within his carrier as he zipped it shut. “I’ll need to read it again. There’s a certain amount for your body weight, but you just take a few drops or so.”
“Remember, I’m not 200 pounds, okay?”
“Okay, okay,” Dewey said as Paige flicked on her turn signal and swung off the road onto a paved drive marked Shadow Harbor Air Club.
“Hangar number thirteen,” Dewey announced.
Paige slowed the car to a crawl, creeping along as she eyed the numbers on them. “Eight’s on this side. Seven’s across from it. Okay, nine. Eleven. And…”
Her voice trailed off and she bit into her lower lip as she eased the car to a stop.
“Find it?” Dewey asked.
Her heart sank as she realized they may be lost again. “No. There’s nothing here. Nothing.”
CHAPTER 27
“What?” Dewey cried.
“Nothing. There’s no thirteen.”
“Is there more road?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, keep going!” Dewey shouted.
With a roll of her eyes, Paige let her foot off the brake, and they drifted forward. A building stood in the distance, separated from the other hangars by a field. Paige continued toward it, spotting the large number thirteen emblazoned over the door as she approached.
“There it is! We found it!”
“Hooray!” Dewey cheered from inside his carrier.
Paige pulled close to the open hangar door and tossed the shifter into park, then she collected her things and climbed from the car. She slung the carrier strap over her shoulder and approached the enormous building.
Two men sat at a table inside near a jet. One rose as she stepped inside, glancing around.
“Ms. Turner?” he asked.
