I winced. “No. Just hand-to-hand training.” Which my combat mode would help with, but would I even be able to get that close to a fog monster?
Cal said, “Greg, these weapons are pretty sharp, but I’ve never used one in actual combat, and neither have you. Not to mention, we’re not sure what these fuckers are, or what that fog can do. All I have is my experience in video game battle situations. And that experience is telling me our best hope is gathering a large number of people to scare them away.”
I breathed in and out. Up til now I hadn’t really let myself consider the reality of fighting the fog monsters. Of Cal fighting them.
“Understood. Do it.”

@everyoneThe fog monsters are planning to attack an unaffiliated Wonder TONIGHT in the parking lot of the Build Barn in Wimberley. Map link below. Anyone who can come help me and Greg scare them away, please join us. Just park in the parking lot and do not leave your cars. Do not put yourselves in danger. We’re hoping that having a large number of people present will prevent the attack.
Please spread the word.

I’m on the road back from El Paso, but I’m not even to Fort Stockton yet, sorry. I’ll call around to see if anyone I know is in the Wimberly area. Keep sharp eyes out, and stay safe.
CHAPTER 25
CAL
Greg toldhis phone to dial Mia back. It was a little after 9pm so hopefully she’d be allowed to answer her cell.
Greg muttered, “Please, please, please.”
The call went to voicemail. Fuck.
I offered, “Maybe she’s closing up or whatever. Still working. That could take a while, right?” We were 25 minutes away.
He dialed again. And again. Miraculously, on the third try, she answered.
“Hello?” Shit she sounded young.
“Mia, this is Greg Shaw. Did you get my voicemail?”
