“I love you both so much. Thank you for being the best gift, Fallon Wright.”

Fate has a way of making things align in the best or worst way possible. I’ve experienced the worst of it with the family I lost. But now, it happens in the best way. Fallon and I decide to move to New Jersey ten months after our daughter is born. As it turns out, the company she worked for had retained her job for her. According to them, she was such a valuable asset and they were always hoping she’ll come back. As for me, I could be anywhere as long as I had her and little Sofia in my life. Being a full time dad is surprisingly something I’m not only good at but thoroughly enjoy.

We finally found each other and our purpose in life. For the first time, everything was perfect.

Epilogue

Morris is used to people not believing in the Aster Tree. He’s had to get used to it over the years. However, his faith in the Aster petal is unwavering, and he’s seen proof of its magic year after year.

It’s a new season, and Morris gets to work again. He rises at the break of dawn and hikes the hill leading up to the Aster tree. There are weeds surrounding it this year, and he makes quick work of uprooting them as he waits for the magic to happen.

He can’t be sure the flowers will bloom that day, so he’ll return every day until it eventually does. However, Morris doesn’t have to wait long. The sun is shining when pink petals emerge.

He walks forward and plucks the single flower from the tree. Then he sets it in the vase he always brings along for the special occasion. He makes sure to water it before leaving for the day.

By the time he returns the next day, he’s sure the flower will be dead. But he takes solace in the fact that it’ll find its way to the right place. Morris doesn’t need everyone to believe in the petal. He just needs to see proof that the magic exists, and he has never been disappointed.

The flower dies, the cycle continues, and the petal finds its way to the home of Michael Black. He’s not there yet. He’s currently miles away from Aster Falls, receiving a call that informs him his mother has passed away.
