“I love you,” he said, his arms warm and strong about her, holding her close.
She closed her eyes and breathed in the moment, reveling in how he held her. How their hearts were beating in tandem.
“I need to tell you something,” she said. “It’s about the cooking class.”
“Right now?” Roman asked with a laugh.
“Yes.” She drew away, wiping her eyes again. “Mattia is going to retire in the summer, so he’s going to sell this place. I’m thinking of buying it.”
Roman blinked, but then he smiled. “You’re kidding.”
“No. I really want this, but if it changes things about you wanting to marry me, then I’ll tell him no—”
Roman cradled her face and kissed her soundly. “Let’s buy the place.”
“You and me?”
He nodded, grinning now. “I’m moving here anyway, and we’ll keep the Wyoming ranch for vacations or future film shoots.”
“Wait, you’re moving here?”
“Yeah, that’s why I was late,” he said. “I put in an offer on a condo and had to shuttle some people from the airport who’d just arrived from Texas.”
Cara stared at Roman in amazement. “Did I tell you that I love you?”
“You have, but I need to hear it a lot,” he teased.
She kissed him then, with her whole family watching. She didn’t care. Roman was her fiancé, it was just what they did. Then, with her skin buzzing and her heart full, she went to accept congratulations from her family.
“You’re going to be my new mommy!” Mia declared.
Cara scooped her into a tight hug. “Yep. What do you think about that?”
“Best day ever.”
Everyone laughed.
When Cara finally made her way back to Roman’s side, they grasped hands. Standing together, she said, “Who’s hungry for lunch?”
Roman squeezed her hand when everyone answered yes.
Cara looked from Mia to Roman. “All right, De Marcos, let’s get busy in the kitchen.”
