“Hmm, I suppose so now that I’ve set down roots.” Providence loved that he’d given her a room in his—now their—house. Not that her stuff wasn’t spread all over their home after a year. But shefinally had her own personal space. “We can take a road trip to Mississippi after we get back from visiting Marina and Aleksandra.”
“That’ll work. Did you ever get a hold of them last night?”
“Yeah. I think they’re more excited than me about our visit. Hey, did you know Mike has been visiting them a lot? Is there something going on between them?”
“Huh. He didn’t say anything to me about it. Not that we make a habit of sharing feelings.”
She giggled. “Yeah, I’m well aware. I could see it though, you know? He took such good care of them when Marina was recovering.”
Tony looked over at her and quirked one of his eyebrows. “Don’t you start matchmaking. That never ends well.”
“Who me? I wouldn’t dare.” Providence crossed her fingers behind her back. Nope, she’d never do something like that.
“It’ll be good to get away for a few weeks.”
“Yes, it will. It feels like you’ve been working double with all the setup and crap that you did. I didn’t know there’d be so many hoops to jump through to set up a new company.”
“Right? At least it’s all done. We can come back home and see how it goes. I’m sure we’ll be busyjust trying to run down the rest of the trafficking ring, even if we don’t get any new clients for a while.”
Providence nodded. Rescuing the women from the salon had been the first of several missions Tony and his friends had carried out. She’d tagged along a few times as the medic, but after Marina’s rescue, she’d been relegated to van access only. It had grated on her at first, but she knew it was due to his need to keep her safe, and she couldn’t stay mad.
It took a couple of hours, but they’d finally finished packing his office, and getting all the boxes loaded into his Jeep. A few people came out to say goodbye, but they’d see everyone at the Ready Room later. Pam had agreed to close for the evening so they could have Tony’s retirement party.
Tony had earned the love and respect of many over the years, and Providence was thrilled they’d be able to celebrate his long career with all of their friends and co-workers.
“Ready, baby?” Tony asked as he clicked his seatbelt. After he’d told her what happened to his parents, she understood his obsession about never moving the car until everyone was buckled in.
“Yup. Are you?”
“Always. As long as I have you by my side.”
