Two weeks later
T HE TEAM GATHERED IN the backyard of Wyatt and Callie’s house, the smell of freshly grilled food drifting through the air.
Sawyer wanted to chuckle. The last time he’d been here for a party was when Riley had unexpectedly texted him, asking for help.
Now he was here with her at his side. If someone had told him months ago that he’d be head-over-heels for a woman, he never would’ve believed it.
Life was damn strange, but he wouldn’t change any of it.
Hudson and Layton strolled over to them, Layton’s belly swelling with her pregnancy. “Look at you two kids,” Sawyer quipped. “As soon as you pop that baby out, Hudson will probably want to knock you up all over again.”
“Be good,” Riley chastised.
He shot her a heated look. “Never.”
Layton only laughed, no doubt used to Sawyer and his antics. “That’s the plan, big guy. We’re going to have a house full of kids.”
Hudson only grinned, giving Layton a gentle kiss.
“Now those two are a happy couple,” Sawyer said as they walked away to say hello to some of the others.
Riley smiled up at him, and he brushed back a strand of her hair, lifting her chin to give her a gentle kiss.
“We’re a happy couple, too.”
“Indeed we are, kitten. Think anyone noticed we arrived late?” he razzed.
She flushed, and he shot her a wicked look.
Riley had several broken ribs that were still healing.
He’d wanted the two of them to be completely celibate until she was fully healed, but his girl always had a mind of her own.
She’d stripped for him earlier, so Sawyer had stretched her out on his big bed, eating her out and listening to her sweet cries and mewls of pleasure.
He loved knowing how badly she wanted him, and the feeling was one hundred percent mutual.
Riley’s phone buzzed, and she pulled it from her purse, smiling.
“Who was that?” Sawyer asked.
“That was just a text from Radley. She’s busy with some of the guys from Shadow Security.”
“Shadow Security? That’s Jett Hutchinson’s group based out of New York,” Wyatt noted in surprise, overhearing their conversation.
“This is the new branch. It’ll be headquartered in Seattle,” Riley explained.
Sawyer’s sharp gaze landed on her. Riley had mentioned the former Delta Force soldiers before, and he’d quickly put two and two together. This was the first he’d heard her say the name Shadow Security though. It seemed like things were official. “And Radley?” he asked.
“She’ll be working there,” Riley confirmed. “She’s helping to get the new operation stood up.”
He gazed down at her, and his voice was low. Husky. “What about you, kitten?”
“What about me?” she sassed.
“Well for one, I sure as shit hope you’re staying in Honolulu. Preferably in my bed.”
“I wouldn’t pass that up, lover boy,” she said with a wink.
Sawyer growled and pulled her into his arms, kissing her right there in front of his teammates.
Fuck convention. He wanted this woman. She’d been at his place for the past two weeks, recovering, and he wanted her there forever.
“You’re gonna stay here in paradise with me,” he confirmed, looking into her dark eyes.
“That’s the plan.”
“Thank God.” He kissed her again, deeper this time, and Riley clung to him like she never wanted to let go.
Life was strange the way it unfolded, but he wouldn’t change it for the world.
Everything that had happened in the past had led to this exact moment.
Riley was meant to be his, and Sawyer was thankful as hell that he’d found her.
“I love you,” he told her, his voice serious.
Tears smarted her eyes. “I love you, too. More than you’ll ever know.”
He kissed her, slow and deep, when a commotion off to the side suddenly drew his attention. Sawyer looked over to see his teammates gathered around Wyatt. “The commander left,” Wyatt said with a frown, reading over a message on his phone.
“Left?” Ryan asked.
“He’s gone,” Wyatt confirmed.
Sawyer took Riley’s hand and strode over, his jaw hardening as he looked at his team leader and the concern etched on his face. “What do you mean he’s gone?” Sawyer demanded.
Wyatt eyed him, and the others quieted to hear his response. “The commander went to Colombia alone to find Luciana.”
