They were all sitting around the conference table, waiting for a briefing. Everyone but Josh. Last evening, Quinn had texted each of them to let them know they needed to be on base at zero seven hundred for a briefing. As usual, they were in the dark, though Ry suspected Quinn knew what they’d be discussing.
If Ry had to guess, he’d say it was about shit happening in Marikistan. For the last few months, he’d been following their civil war. It had escalated over the last week and the UN sent aid workers. Then again, it wasn’t the only trouble spot in the news these days.
“I called to check on him. He’s on his way. He said his neighbor blocked his driveway again so he couldn’t avoid her,” Ry said.
Hopefully, Josh showed up before their CO, Tony Knox. Though Quinn was so pissed off, he’d probably still make him do extra PT for the rest of the week.
None of the team had met Josh’s next-door neighbor, but from his stories, they knew plenty about her. Or at least how much of a pain in the ass she was. From the moment she moved in, she’d been driving Josh out of his mind over the stupidest little things, but this time she’d gone too far. You didn’t make a SEAL late for a briefing. That was a hell fucking no.
“I’m here. Sorry, boss,” Josh said as he rushed through the door and took a seat next to Ry. “It won’t happen again.”
Quinn wasn’t usually a hardass, but something was eating him. It didn’t bode well for Josh or whatever the briefing was about.
Josh had barely sat down before Knox entered, and he wasn’t alone. A woman followed behind him, talking into her phone. He’d never seen her before and from the low murmur between his teammates, neither had they.
She had thick black hair that fell to the middle of her back, and fair skin. But when she disconnected her call, and she looked up, he couldn’t look away. He’d never seen eyes so pale blue they looked like ice on a cold winter’s day, and he actually shivered. No way would he want to be on the wrong side of her ire.
“Oh, fuck no,” Josh exclaimed, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Shocked at his outburst, Ry glanced over at Josh and gave him a look that said, “What the fuck?”
“Good morning. Sorry to make this so early, but we have a situation. Before I begin, I’d like to introduce Tempest Miller. She’ll be working with us on this mission as a translator and trainer.
He didn’t have to look at him to know Josh was trying to control his temper. Who’d have thought that of all the people in this world, it was the one woman who drove him out of his fucking mind?
Oh yeah, this was going to be fun.
