Page 67 of Scent of Desire
I nodded, and we parted ways. I strolled one last time around the garden. The fountain had gone silent, butterflies circling around it. As for the greenhouse, I thought it’d be a graveyard where rotten flowers had given their last blooms, but I was wrong.
Turning the handle, I entered into its magical supremacy. Ivy had grown on the windows like a ribbon surrounding it like a sacred gift. The flowers had bloomed beautifully in a landscape of colors and infused into a spring scent. The earth wasn’t dry and decaying anymore. It was wild. Hopeful. Luminous.
I walked toward the hole in the middle where the Devil’s Corpse used to stand like a queen. The hole was deep, as if it was a tunnel to hell itself. I crouched in front of it, my fingers grazing the earth. “Someone dug you up.”
There were a few broken petals left on the ground which would disappear with time, and a few roots which were only a fragment of her splendor.
The Devil’s Corpse had been unearthed for a reason.
He searched for something.
My lips drew into a smile.
Radcliff had taken the seed.
If I could grow life in the underworld and bloom the heart of its soulless king, then, perhaps, he could revive her in her afterlife.
Day 1
Dear Radcliff,
We weren’t coincidence.
We were destined, our story engraved in stone.
Written with the blood and feather of an angel,
We wage wars on the demons of fate in the pit of hell.
Our souls were damned but bloomed with obsession.
You thought I was bound to heaven, but you were the one born with wings.
My guardian angel.
You’re wherever I am,
And I know now, you’ll never leave my side. You never did.
For the others, you’re the monster who hid in the shadows.
To me, you’re the savior who protected me from your own monster. Your father.
Your skin had burnt because of me,
For the punishment you suffered for siding with the witch.
You saw my darkness.
I saw your light.
We can’t escape each other.
I know where to go now.
To my Elysian fields.
“Where do you want to go?” Hugo’s voice called out to me from the car.
