But this…
Thiswas happening.
And I couldn’t do anything to stop it.
“Amara,” Killian snapped.
But I didn’t care what he had to say. He’d betrayed me in the worst way. I’d never trusted anyone before and foolishly made him my first. Because there’d been no other choice, no other way, but I allowed myself to get comfortable, to—
His mouth captured mine, rousing me from my mind.
What the hell?
No!
I started fighting in earnest, squirming beneath him, desperate to find a way out, but he was too strong, toobig. His palm held my wrists with dangerous ease above my head, his opposite hand circling my throat as he lifted to glower down at me again.
“Stop,” he demanded.
“Fuck you!”
“Jesus, Amara.” The roar of the engines overpowered his voice, the vibrations as we picked up speed shattering something inside of me.
It’s done.
I’m going back to him.
There’s no option here.
I… I’ve lost.
My shoulders shook, my lungs begging me to breathe as I crumpled beneath him, all my fight gone. He had me right where he wanted me.
Broken.
Alone.
Finished.
“Amara,” he whispered, shifting to the side and gathering me in his arms. We were already in the air, the change in atmosphere causing my head to ache. Or maybe that was my heart. No, my entire body.
Oh, hell. I didn’t know anything anymore. I’d never felt sodestroyed. How had he managed to do this to me? People had played games with me all my life. None of them ever won.
Until Killian.
Why him?
Why did I have to trust him?
Because Ilikedhim.
Because for the first time in my life, I actually desired someone. Every encounter until this point had been forced on me, except Killian.
But it was all a lie.
A fucked-up punishment.
A ruse meant to belittle me and remind me of my place.
