“More than ever in my entire fucking life.”
“I love you.”
Hearing her say those words didn’t cause guilt and panic this time. Instead, he felt warm happiness as he stared into the pale green eyes of his future.
“I love you too.”
And he’d do anything to keep her and the baby safe. Forever.
EPILOGUE
AMY
“She’s perfect, isn’t she?” Brogan said.
Amy smiled over at him as he stood with their daughter cradled in his arms. They’d just arrived home from the hospital an hour ago, and Brogan had insisted that she take her time getting cleaned up. Being in the hospital for two days while recovering from giving birth left her feeling gross, and she’d just taken the best shower of her life.
“She is,” Amy agreed, coming closer.
Their daughter looked up at Amy, her little fists opening and closing. They’d named her Gwyn, and she already had Brogan wrapped around her little finger. Opening her mouth, she let out a big yawn, and Amy could have sworn that he practically swooned.
“Have you ever seen anything this cute?” he asked.
The wonder in her eyes made her fall in love with him just a little more than she already was, which she wouldn’t have thought was possible.
Brogan’s walls finally came down the night that she told him about the pregnancy. He admitted that Ruby was right. He thought he wasn’t worthy of her because of the ugliness in his past and some of the things that he still had to do today.
But she loved him for who he was, and she wasn’t going anywhere.
“I think she’s hungry,” Amy said as Gwyn turned her face into his chest with her mouth open.
“I don’t have what you need, little lady.” He handed her over, and Amy went to the rocking chair they’d bought for the living room for just this reason.
Brogan left the room for a moment as she Gwyn into position and started breastfeeding her. When he came back, her heart melted at the sight of him holding the book she was currently reading in one hand and her favorite drink — iced sweet tea - in the other.
He set them down on the table beside her.
So thoughtful and protective. How in the world could he have ever thought he wasn’t good enough.
As Brogan sat on the couch, ready to give her anything she might need, Amy couldn’t help smiling. She was crazy about this man. He was the man she was meant to be with, and it was strange to think of how they came together in the first place.
Who ever would have thought that being abducted by the mafia would turn out to be such a good thing?
