I picked up my bag. “I’m going to the farmers market for apples.”
June was right. It was the end of September. The leaves were changing and the air was cooler, and I had some killer recipes that might just pull me out of the funk I’d been in for the past few days.
Poe stood. “I’ll go with you.”
“Me too,” Remy said, shutting down the gaming system in the living room.
“No, that’s not…” I sighed. “That’s not necessary.”
“We know it’s not necessary,” Poe said. “But it’ll be fun.”
“You’ve never said the farmers market was fun before.” I frowned. “You’re just trying to keep track of me, aren’t you?”
“Maybe we just want to hang with you,” Poe said.
They’d hardly left the house over the last few days, and when one or two of them did, someone else always stayed behind at the loft.
“Sure.” I could see they weren’t giving up. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Poe looked at Bram. “You coming?”
I headed for the stairs because Bram never went with us anywhere.
Then Bram spoke behind me. “I’m coming.”
I turned to look at him, already getting up from the dining-room table and ambling across the room the way only he could, looking both sexy as fuck and mind-numbingly arrogant.
“You’re… coming?”
He brushed past me to start down the stairs and I caught a heady whiff of his scent: leather and sweat.
He was halfway down the stairs when he spoke again. “I’ll drive.”

She wasn’t thrilled, that much was obvious.
To soothe my ego, I told myself it was because Bram was coming, but it might also have been because we’d been tracking her phone, or because Remy had hauled her ass out of the city.
There were a lot of reasons she might not want us along, come to think of it, but I tried not to dwell on that as we piled into the Hummer.
I was glad when Remy took shotgun so I could sit next to Maeve in the backseat. I’d hardly seen her over the last few days, and I was surprised that as much as I wanted to fuck her again, I missed her face more than anything. I missed the way she smiled and even the way she sighed when she was fed up with Bram’s shit and the way she patiently helped Remy clean up his messes and the way she studied her food like it held the secrets to the universe.
We pulled out of the lot and Bram started down Main, but instead of veering down the side street to the old railroad parking lot where the farmers market was held, he continued down Main.
“I told you I have to go to the farmers market,” Maeve said, shifting to look between the two front seats.
“I know.” Bram’s eyes were hidden by his sunglasses. “Apples.”
“Right, so?— ”
“I have an errand to run first.”
Maeve sat back in her seat, obviously annoyed, and folded her arms over her chest. I tried not to stare at her tits, which wasn’t easy because she was wearing a red V-neck T-shirt under her jacket and some kind of bra that made me want to take a bite out of her flesh.
Or maybe that was just because she had amazing tits.
