“For real? I get to go home with you?” Maisie’s voice ended on a screech. She turned to Emily, tears falling down her cheeks. “I’m adopted?”

Stormey had yet to take her eyes off Hegna. She stepped closer, a hiccup escaping her.

“She’s ours? You—we—adopted her? How?” Stormey’s tears streamed down her face.

Hegna gathered Stormey to her, pressing a kiss on the top of her head.

“Yes, miere. Maisie is our daughter. She is coming home with us. Today,” Hegna announced. She turned and opened her other arm for the little tyke.

Maisie flew to her, joining their hug.

“I love you so much.” Stormey lifted her head, a wide grin on her lips. She bent down and picked up Maisie. She nuzzled her neck and pressed kisses on her cheeks. “You hear that. You are coming home with us.”

“Does that mean I’m a princess now, too?” Maisie asked.

Hegna returned her smile and gave a nod. Since the adoption had been completed, her father would officially announce Maisie to the world. The Riskel family was growing. They now had two members of the next generation. It mattered not that Maisie was not hers biologically. Legally, she was now a Riskel and would be awarded everything a biological child would.

“That you are, little one,” Hegna replied.

“I have to go pack and tell everyone that I’m a princess now!” Maisie scrambled down from Stormey’s arms. She raced over to the stairs and paused, spinning back to them. “You’re not going to leave me, are you?”

“Never,” Stormey replied. She leaned into Hegna, wrapping her arms around her waist.

Maisie sped down the stairs. Stormey faced Hegna and arched her eyebrows.

“You and I are going to have to talk about some decisions you make without me.”

“Was this a bad decision?” Hegna asked.

“Of course not. It’s just that I have so much to prepare for Maisie at the castle. We need to pick out a room, go shopping for her—”

“It will be fine, miere. She has us now, and that’s all that really matters.”

“She certainly is lucky to have you two as parents,” Emily said. “Stormey, I think we are done for now. We can continue later. I’m sure you have much to do.”

“Thanks for your assistance, Emily.” Hegna offered her hand to her.

The woman came over and pulled Hegna into a hug.

“This is worth a hug, princess.” Emily stepped back with a laugh. “I’ll speak with you later, Stormey.”

She waved then walked over to the stairs. When she was halfway down, Stormey turned back to Hegna. She reached out and tugged her mate to her. Hegna wrapped her arms around Stormey and never wanted to let go.

“When we arrive home, everyone is going to be waiting for your orders, princess,” Hegna said. “Whatever we need for our daughter will be provided.”

“We are what Maisie needs.” Stormey’s eyes misted over again. She sniffed and smiled through her tears.

Hegna vowed to continue to do what she must to keep her mate smiling at all times.

“You are all I need.”

“And you are everything I need.”
