Page 29 of Roxy's Independence
But I’m not the only man experiencing that level of insanity with his old lady. Eventually, the women are gonna get tired of our hovering and all hell is going to break loose. Roxy convinced Python to seek out a therapist and even though it hasn’t been long since he’s been seeing Dr. Malcaroy, I can see the light starting to flicker in his eyes. He’s coming around, but it’s going to take time for him to get back to where he was both mentally and emotionally.
Until that time comes, we’ll be there for him no matter what capacity that is. The thing that matters most, is that today, he’s made an appearance at our family gathering. We’re celebratinglife with booze and barbecue because it’s precious and you never know when it’ll be taken away. This isn’t only about Kinsley, it’s about all of the fallen men and women we’ve lost along the way. This is us honoring and remembering them the only way we can by sharing stories and memorializing them.
When Dragon raises his beer high into the air and Wrecker whistles, I give them my undivided attention. Butcher steps up and stands beside Dragon. Our pres and VP make a formidable pair when they’re standing side by side. I wouldn’t want to cross them in a dark alley because the mere sight of them could make a grown man piss his pants.
When the mass grows quiet, waiting to see what they have to say, Dragon smiles. “We’ve lost, we’ve sacrificed, and we’ve fought our way out from the depths of hell. People have come into our lives who’ve made a difference, and those people have made us better men and women. We may have faced tribulations in the last few years, but we’ve also been given some very special treasures. Our kids and old ladies are the most precious of gems. So today, we toast life, we give our thanks, and we mourn. Raise your bottles, brothers, and shout out your thanks for those we’ve lost and those who are still with us.”
Wolf whistles pierce the air as we all raise our bottles. Roxy buries herself deeper into my chest and looks up at me. “I love you, Weston. Thank you for giving me my second chance. My independence, and for giving me a family.”
“I love you more, Foxy Roxy. Thank you for being my rock, my salvation, my second chance. I’ll never take your independence from you, being with me should make you stronger, not weaker. Because you, my love, are the backbone of who we are. You hold us up and make me better and it’s because of you that we have our family.”
She clinks her wine cooler to my beer and says, “To us. To the future, whatever it brings.”
“Whatever it brings,” I repeat, leaning over and capturing her lips with mine.
Life is fickle and unpredictable, but with her and our kids at my side, I feel like I can take on the world.
