Page 8 of Roommate Wanted (Knotty #1)

Lyall

Iknocked on the door and waited for Nia. The television cut out, and I heard her footsteps grow closer. I heard her conversation with Amara at work and received her text, but I was going nowhere. She looked through the peephole before she opened the door.

“Lyall, what are you doing here? Didn't you get my message?”

she asked with her hand fluttering to her collarbone, rubbing at an invisible spot.

“What message?”

I asked feigning innocence.

“I—well, I was drunk last night. I’m so sorry, Lyall, but I need a female roommate,”

she said before swallowing hard, her throat bobbed as if the words were stuck.

“But ah handed ma notice in. Ah’ve got naewhere tae go,”

I pleaded, nodding at the box I held.

“Look, ah promise tae be the best roommate yu've ever hud.”

“Lyall, I can’t—”

Please, Nia, where cun ah go? All ma family is in Scotland. yae were happy tae let me move in last night…”

She chewed on her lip as guilt flitted across her features.

“Okay.”

She exhaled, her grip on the door tightening for a second before she shuffled aside.

“This is a trial period. And I’ll need this month’s rent upfront. One month. Nothing more, nothing less.”

And just like that, I was living with my mate.

With a hidden grin, I walked past her to put my boxes down before retrieving my suitcase and last box from the corridor. By the time I put everything in my new bedroom, she was in the living room muttering about the movie Single White Female. I hid behind the hallway wall and sniffed the air, testing it before I licked my lips to taste it. The scent was slowly maturing.

Almost there. Conall said, but his voice was faint and strained.

We needed to go out for a run. It was difficult in London because the city never slept. There was a nearby park where we could do a few laps. I knew all of her pet peeves regarding roommates, and on top of her list was food theft. There was cleanliness and invasion of privacy.

Two out of three wasn't so bad.

“Am going tae the shops. Dae yae need anyhin’?”

I called out.

“Can you pick me up a pay rise and a guide on how to get rid of your soul-sucking boss?”

I chuckled at her words.

Ma wee Angel didnae need tae get her hawnds dirty when ah would dae it fur her.

“Anyhin’ else?”

I asked, poking my head into the living room.

“Oh, can you get me some coconut milk, please? Deduct it from your rent,”

she said, glancing away from the telly.

I don't know how I managed to keep a straight face, but I did. I nodded and left the apartment. It wasn’t the creamy coconut milk that was making her hot drinks addictive.

Nia had given me one month, but I would make myself indispensable to her. I missed her unguarded drunk persona, but this was a long game. I was the Alpha of the ancient Shetland Wulver pack, and I’d never lost a battle in my life. I pried into every part of her life and loved what I found.

She was the missing part of my soul.

My mate.

My future.

I could feel it deep within my bones.

Conall chuffed in agreement.

**

The hinges of her bedroom door moved silently now, well-oiled from my previous visit. Moonlight spilled across the room. The ray of light shone on the bed where she lay tangled in sheets, unaware. I lowered myself onto the edge of the mattress, the weight causing her to shift slightly toward me in her sleep.

My hand slid down my aching length, a shudder rolling through me as her intoxicating scent flooded my senses. Precum beaded at my tip as I worked my fist slowly downward, stopping just short of my swollen knot before dragging it back up in torturous strokes.

When the first clear pearl of liquid dripped over my fingers, I leaned close enough to feel her breath against my wrist. I smeared the glistening fluid across her parted lips, watching her tongue dart out instinctively to taste what her body already craved. A soft sigh escaped her as she snuggled deeper into her bedding.

She needs us. Conall said, entranced by our mate.

Not yet. She needs to be ready. I told him.

The jar waited in my other hand, cool glass against heated skin as I continued stroking.

Soon she'd wake to find me between her thighs instead of lurking in shadows.

Soon, those lips would beg for a taste of me instead of accepting my offerings in her slumber.

But for tonight, I'd content myself with watching her sleep, with marking her in ways she couldn't yet understand.

Tonight was only the first night of many.

**

The bathroom door opened, and Nia yelped when she saw me.

“Gud mornin’,”

I said, scratching my bare chest.

“Ah hope yae slept well.”

Her hand clutched the neckline of her robe as her eyes fell to my short towel.

“G-Good morning,”

she choked out before bolting past me to her bedroom.

The door slammed shut.

I whistled and strode into the steamy bathroom.

Today was going to be a grand day.

**

I heard the keys jingle and the door opened. I’d kept my distance from her at work today since I didn’t want my cover to be blown.

“Ah’ve made us dinner,”

I shouted out to her.

“Give me fifteen minutes n’ am done.”

Her heels clicked on the wooden floor until I heard her stop at the kitchen.

“You made dinner for me?”

she asked as she walked into the kitchen to look at the pots on the cooker.

“Ah telt yae. Am going tae be the best roommate yu’ve ever hud,”

I said before tapping her nose.

“Yer gonna love ma mashed tatties.”

Her lips finally curved.

“I have no idea what you said, but the food smells amazing.”

Aye, nae mair junk food fur yae. Plus, I would be adding some special cream intae her tatties.

She turned, and my eyes dropped to her business dress and sexy black heels.

“I’m going to have a quick shower.”

I pictured the grey and white tiled shower. Only with us inside it. With those golden brown legs wrapped around me. I bit my lip as my gaze travelled from her slim ankles to the curve of her calf, but it always led me to those glorious mounds of flesh.

Mount her. Conall whined.

Soon. I said.

Her ass vanished and I took the jar out of the fridge. Her mashed tatties would be extra creamy tonight. Double-dosing her might help our cause.
