Chapter Thirty Six

Eavie

Eavie awoke the following morning with the memories of the night before slowly surfacing as she opened her eyes.

A smile formed on her lips as she recalled every exquisite detail.

Jax had certainly proven his point to her over, and over, and over again.

Not only had he wrung three mind-blowing, back-arching orgasms from her, but he’d also shown her that he controlled her body.

She couldn’t deny it, even if she wouldn’t admit it out loud.

Instead of taking her fast and rough, he’d taken his time with slow, calculated thrusts that continually pushed her close to the edge, building her pleasure leisurely.

Right when she was ready to explode, he’d pull back and keep her from tilting over that edge.

When he would let her fall over it, it would catch her by surprise.

By the time he had been done with her, her voice was rough from screaming his name, her nerve endings were overstimulated, and her legs were like jelly.

Afterward, they ate the dinner that had been delivered while lying in bed. They talked and laughed and enjoyed being together after a few days apart. It was crazy how quickly that small absence had felt so much longer. She smiled as she remembered the casual conversation and teasing.

“The team ready for the game against Memphis?” Eavie asked. The Royals would play the River Kings the day after tomorrow.

“Of course,” Jax scoffed as if her question was ridiculous.

“Someone’s confident,” she shot back with a smirk.

“We’ve only lost two games so far this season.”

“I’m just saying,” she said, shrugging one shoulder. “Everyone thought Chase Maddox would be flat but he’s on a heater.”

He threw her a wry smile. “It’s only the beginning of the season. Plenty of time for him to burn out.”

“Maybe, but everyone does love an underdog.” Eavie fought the smile that tugged at her lips.

“Oh,” Jax said, his voice dropping to a dangerous level. “And are you people?”

She bit her lip. “I might be. Who knows?”

“Do I have competition?”

“I mean, I do enjoy his skills at puck handling,” she teased.

Without warning, Jax tackled her back onto the bed causing her to let out a laughing scream. Pinning her arms above her head, he growled. “I guess I’ll just have to remind you about my puck handling skills…right after I show you my other skills.”

Liquid heat pooled between her legs as Jax dipped his head to kiss her—deeply and thoroughly. In a matter of seconds, he had her body singing again, ready to break apart at his command—and command her he did.

Later that night, as they lay in bed, the soft sheets draped over their naked bodies, she’d felt his fingers run idly over her until she had fallen asleep.

Eavie pulled herself out of her daydreaming as the clock flashed seven. Feeling behind her, she found the sheets were cool and absent of the hard, warm body that had been wrapped around her last night.

Rolling over, she was greeted with nothing more than empty sheets. Sitting up, she looked around her room for any sign of Jax, spotting a piece of paper folded over and lying on the pillow he had used the night before.

Eavie reached for the paper, and the sheet she had been holding fell from her chest to reveal her naked form.

The cool air caressed her skin, causing her nipples to harden, acutely aware that they were sore from Jax’s insatiable attentions.

In fact, her entire body felt sore and used in the most delicious ways.

Thinking about what he had done to make her that way caused her to turn warm and liquid.

She picked up the paper and unfolded it, revealing a note from Jax.

Morning, Cinderella!

I had to get to the arena for an early workout and didn’t want to wake you. I’ll see you there.

Can I take you to dinner tonight? I promise to behave…

J xx

Eavie read the note twice, a goofy, lovesick smile splitting across her face. She was in so much trouble. The man had wormed his way into her heart. Giddiness overtook her as she thought about seeing him today at work and having an actual date with him tonight.

Rolling out of bed, she went to her shower to clean up from last night, something she had neglected to do.

Standing under the steaming spray, she washed away the traces of Jax from between her legs.

She continued to let the flood of memories from last night play on her closed eyelids like a movie.

Just remembering the feel of his hands, his lips, and the way he felt inside her had her so hot—so ready.

Even after three smoldering rounds and multiple orgasms, her need for him hadn’t simmered.

If anything, it had grown hotter and more intense.

Stepping from the shower, Eavie wrapped a towel around herself before stepping up to the mirror. She applied her makeup as usual, but instead of putting her hair in its standard high bun, she left it down, flowing in large waves down her back.

Jax had told her he loved her hair and thought about running his hands through it, pulling on it.

With a saucy smile at her reflection, she wondered what his reaction would be seeing her at work with it down, just as he liked it.

She had no doubt it would elicit the exact response she was looking for.

When Eavie entered her office, her eyes immediately focused on her desk, and memories from exactly one week ago jumped to the forefront of her mind.

Smiling, she walked over to it, only noticing the little black shopping bag once she got closer.

It sat in the middle of the clean surface, its waxy white tissue paper artfully arranged to stick out the top.

Frowning at the bag, she put her purse on the floor before reaching for it, curious about it’s random appearance.

Inside, she found a pair of ice blue lace panties with a matching bra, folded neatly and placed on top of more tissue paper.

It was equally gorgeous and sexy, the sheer of the intricate lace would cup her breasts while her nipples peaked through the filigree.

The bottoms looked the same style, matching the bra perfectly.

Eavie smiled, letting out a small giggle—an actual fucking giggle. God, what was happening to her?

She shook her head and put the tissue paper back in, covering the gift. Jax must have left these for her this morning, a replacement for the ones he’d ripped last week. Heat shot to her pussy as she remembered how he’d torn them off her with his bare hands.

Fuck me . The two words started to become something like a catchphrase, specific to the effects Jax Morghan had on her.

Tucking the little bag inside her purse, she decided she would exchange the cream silk underwear she was wearing now for these for her dinner with Jax tonight. An evil smile touched her mouth as she thought about the look on his face when he saw her in them.

“What’s up with you?” came Mandy’s voice from her office doorway.

Looking up, Eavie smiled at her. “Oh, nothing. I was just thinking about something.”

“Uh-huh,” replied Mandy, looking at her with narrowed eyes. Coming inside, she stopped right on the other side of her desk. “So when were you going to tell me about Jax?”

Startled, Eavie looked at her sharply. “What?” she asked, flustered. “What would make you say that?”

She could feel the heat rising up her neck to flame across her cheeks. There was no way Mandy could know. She had been so careful to make sure no one saw them together.

“You and Jax hooking up,” said Mandy. “Is it true?”

Eavie stared at her, stunned. Her breath caught in her throat. She could feel herself starting to panic, the erratic beat of her heart pushing blood too quickly through her veins. How could she know? How did she find out?

“I don’t understand. How…how did you hear about that?”

“So it is true,” said Mandy, brows raised. “What happened to not being interested and against company policy?”

Ignoring her question, Eavie stared at her, repeating, “How did you find out?”

“Molly came looking for you this morning. When I asked her what was going on, she wanted to know if I knew you and Jax were dating,” Mandy answered slowly. Registering the panic on Eavie’s face, she asked, “Eavie, are you okay?”

“Molly told you…” she repeated.

Okay, that didn’t necessarily mean anything. Molly had already been suspicious at the Halloween party and had helped Jax with her clue. But just because she suspected didn’t mean everyone did. Her suspicions would have Molly looking for her first thing in the morning.

Walking around her desk, she approached Mandy. “Who else knows?” she asked seriously, hoping it was just them.

She could handle it if Molly and Mandy knew. She trusted them to keep it quiet while she worked out how to deal with the issue of her job. But Eavie hadn’t told them, and she was desperate to find out how they’d heard. She was beginning to panic, wondering how many others might know too.

Watching Eavie’s face, a look of concern settled on Mandy’s. “I think everyone knows,” she said gently. “You know how gossip spreads. I don’t know who told Molly, but she is usually the first to hear about anything.”

All the blood drained from Eavie’s face, one hand coming up to cover her mouth in horror. She was finding it hard to breathe, a heavy pressure settling on her chest. She took in long, deep breaths, fighting the waves of nausea that were trying to overtake her.

Suddenly, she was back in high school the morning she walked in to find out the whole school knew about her losing her virginity.

Eavie couldn’t believe she was reliving the same thing—only now it was so much worse.

Her entire life was about to burn. The flames from the inferno of her affair were going to destroy everything she had worked for.

Her reputation at the organization would be ruined.

She would lose her job, and all because she hadn’t been able to keep her fucking legs shut.
